Introduction

Maria Irene Cosmetics was created after years of research on African medicinal plants and their application by Traditional Doctor Rui de Carvalho and Tilla Klopper.

The active plant ingredients used on our facemask range, have been used for their medicinal value and cosmetic properties in the treatment of skin condition such as acne, blemishes, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks in Africa. These medicinal plants forms part of African heritage and culture.

Research

After years of intensive research, we are only now, beginning to comprehend how these plants work. It is not a simple case of searching for actives. The plants used are generally rich in minerals and vitamins such as vitamin A, C & E. However latest research points to a combination of these "actives" together with an electro magnetic field and environmental conditions. We often explain that one of the plants we use has to be picked in certain locations. The plant has totally different attributes when picked 5 kilometers away from these locations.

The secret lies in the formula and the place where the plant material in collected. This is the reason why we are not afraid to divulge the "active" plants used in the manufacturing.

Environment

We take great care not to over-exploit and destroy our natural resources. We educate the local populations on the value of these resources and teach the correct method of collecting such resources without harming the plants. This will allow for a continuous flow of materials without depleting our natural resources. We promote the propagation of these plants by encouraging the local populations to plant new seedlings and look after their growth.

Maria Irene Cosmetics has as its policy to empower the local populations by providing jobs and opportunities to the poor.
