And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy.  -Genesis 2:3

Scriptures for Lesson Two

Therefore the Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath." (Mark 2:28 KJ21)

All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. (John 1:3 KJ21)

hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed Heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds. (Hebrews 1:2 KJ21)

And they went into Capernaum, and straightway on the Sabbath day He entered into the synagogue and taught. (Mark 1:21 KJ21)

And He entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there who had a withered hand. And they watched Him to see whether He would heal him on the Sabbath day, that they might accuse Him. (Mark 3:1-2 KJ21)

And when the Sabbath day had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, "From whence hath this man these things? And what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? (Mark 6:2 KJ21)

And He came to Nazareth where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read. (Luke 4:16 KJ21)

And He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days. (Luke 4:31 KJ21)

And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. (Luke 13:10 KJ21)

And it came to pass, as He went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath day, that they watched Him. (Luke 14:1 KJ21)

And when He had departed thence, He went into their synagogue. And behold, there was a man who had his hand withered. And they asked Him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days?" --that they might accuse Him. And He said unto them, "What man shall there be among you that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, will not lay hold on it and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days." Then He said to the man, "Stretch forth thine hand." And he stretched it forth, and it was restored whole like the other. (Matthew 12:9-13 KJ21)

And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years, and was bowed down and could in no way lift herself up. And when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said unto her, "Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity." And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, and said unto the people, "There are six days in which men ought to work; in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day." The Lord then answered him and said, "Thou hypocrite! Doth not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?" And when He had said these things, all His adversaries were ashamed; and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him. (Luke 13:10-17 KJ21)

And it came to pass, as He went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath day, that they watched Him. And behold, there was a certain man before Him who had the dropsy. And Jesus answering, spoke unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?" But they held their peace. And He took him and healed him, and let him go. And He answered them, saying, "Which of you shall have an ox or an ass fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day?" (Luke 14:1-5 KJ21)

After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of invalid folk--blind, halt, withered--waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool and troubled the water. Whosoever then first stepped in, after the troubling of the water, was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain man was there who had an infirmity for thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been in that state a long time, He said unto him, "Wilt thou be made whole?" The infirm man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me." Jesus said unto him, "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk." And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked. Now it was the Sabbath on that day. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, "It is the Sabbath day; it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed." He answered them, "He that made me whole said unto me, `Take up thy bed and walk.'" Then they asked him, "What man is that who said unto thee, `Take up thy bed and walk'?" And he that was healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had removed Himself away, a multitude being in that place. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said unto him, "Behold, thou art made whole. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee." The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole. And therefor did the Jews persecute Jesus and sought to slay Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." Therefor the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He not only had broken the Sabbath, but said also that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. (John 5:1-18 KJ21)

And as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from his birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Master, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, "Neither hath this man sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of Him that sent Me while it is day; the night cometh when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the Light of the world." When He had thus spoken, He spat on the ground and made clay with the spittle; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay and said unto him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which interpreted means, "Sent"). He went his way therefore and washed, and came back seeing. The neighbors therefore, and those who before had seen that he was blind, said, "Is not this he that sat and begged?" Some said, "This is he." Others said, "He is like him." But he said, "I am he!" Therefore they said unto him, "How were thine eyes opened?" He answered and said, "A man who is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, `Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.' And I went and washed, and I received sight." Then they said unto him, "Where is he?" He said, "I know not." They brought to the Pharisees him that beforehand was blind. And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, "He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed and do see." Therefore some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the Sabbath day." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such miracles?" And there was a division among them. (John 9:1-16 KJ21)

At that time, Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and His disciples were hungry and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto Him, "Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day." But He said unto them, "Have ye not read what David did when he hungered and they that were with him: how he entered into the house of God and ate the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have ye not read in the law how on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are blameless? But I say unto you, that in this place is One greater than the temple. But if ye had known what this meaneth, `I will have mercy and not sacrifice,' ye would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day." (Matthew 12:1-8 KJ21)

And it came to pass that He went through the cornfields on the Sabbath day; and His disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said unto Him, "Behold, why do they do on the Sabbath day that which is not lawful?" And He said unto them, "Have ye never read what David did when he was in need and hungered, he and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave it also to those who were with him?" And He said unto them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath." (Mark 2:23-28 KJ21)

And it came to pass on the second Sabbath after the first, that He went through the cornfields. And His disciples plucked the ears of corn and, rubbing them in their hands, ate. And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, "Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath days?" And Jesus answering them said, "Have ye not read so much as this, what David did when he himself hungered and they that were with him: how he went into the house of God, and took and ate the showbread and gave also to them that were with him, which it is not lawful to eat except for the priests alone?" And He said unto them, "The Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath." (Luke 6:1-5 KJ21)

But if ye had known what this meaneth, `I will have mercy and not sacrifice,' ye would not have condemned the guiltless. (Matthew 12:7 KJ21)

How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days." (Matthew 12:12 KJ21)

And He said unto them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27 KJ21)

"If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honorable, and shalt honor Him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words, (Isaiah 58:13 KJ21)

"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old, `Thou shalt not kill,' and `Whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.' But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, `Raca,' shall be in danger of the council; but whosoever shall say, `Thou fool,' shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee, leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way. First be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. "Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art on the way with him, lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence until thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old, `Thou shalt not commit adultery.' But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye cause thee to fall, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand cause thee to fall, cut it off and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. "It hath been said, `Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement.' But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery; and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. (Matthew 5:21-32 KJ21)

For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day." (Matthew 12:8 KJ21)

Therefore the Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath." (Mark 2:28 KJ21)

And He said unto them, "The Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath." (Luke 6:5 KJ21)

"Think not that I am come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. (Matthew 5:17 KJ21)

And Jesus answering said unto him, "Suffer it to be so now, for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness." Then John suffered Him. (Matthew 3:15 KJ21)

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2 KJ21)

And you, being dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us. He took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross; and having despoiled principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you in regard to meat or drink, or in respect to a holy day or the new moon or the sabbath days, which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ. (Colossians 2:13-17 KJ21)

But now in Christ Jesus, ye who once were far off have been brought nigh by the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that He might make in Himself one new man out of the two, so making peace, and that He might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby. (Ephesians 2:13-16 KJ21)

But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day. (Matthew 24:20 KJ21)

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1 KJ21)

And there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of the purifying of the Jews, holding twenty to thirty gallons apiece. (John 2:6 KJ21)
