From the upper put-in, easy, scenic class I-II boulder bed rapids proceed for the first 1.5 mile (+/-), whereupon the gradient dies, for 3.5 miles of flatwater paddle (with perhaps random occasional riffle beds) until Hwy.97. Shortly downstream a dells is encountered. The river narrows to less than 1/3 its 'normal' width, and plunges through a wild rocky gorge (class III with good water). Technical boulder bed runout (with some small islands, trees, and snags) follows before the gradient subsides again to totally placid until any available take-out. |
