Right where Highway 66 crosses the Plover River, there is a dam which forms "Jordan Pond." A cement "cap" (and shallow, hard landing) precludes running the dam and short drop under the highway. However, putting in at the pool immediately below a short bit of flow brings one to a diversion dam/wall. Holes have been eroded through at left and center which allow some flow through (VERY DANGEROUS!!!), while the main current is directed hard to the right, then down random, erratic ledges before dropping into a large pool below. A footbridge crosses the river beyond the pool, allowing pedestrian access to view the rapids/falls from various angles, and to check out the old powerhouse. (It looks like some restoration is being done on the race and penstock. Unknown whether this is, or will be, operational.)
This area could provide some minor diversion to local paddlers, but is more likely to be enjoyed as a scenic stop while in the area for other pursuits. |
