RIVER: Thunder River
LOCATION: Marinette County (flows into Peshtigo River S. of High Falls)

PUT-IN: Veterans Memorial Park
TAKE-OUT: Veterans Memorial Park

SHUTTLE: From the parking lot, carry down a short trail. You will see a large pool into which the first falls drops. Carry around the pool to the right, cross the footbridge just upstream of the falls, and head to the right to put-in. Trails (more or less) exist from Fourth Falls on either side of the river to return to the park proper for your return "shuttle".

                   DIST: 0.5 miles
TIME: PnP, as long as it holds your interest.

CLASS: II-IV
CHARACTER: Runnable/playable falls in a county park.

GAUGE: Visual.
SEASON: Generally runnable most any time, just different play.

First_Falls Some easy surfing may be possible immediately under the bridge if you have the skill and confidence to do so above First Falls (about 6-8').  At the right water levels, enders are possible in the base of this drop.

Second_Falls   A few small waves may be present before Second Falls (about 4-5'), but these might be less playable, since at good water levels the base of this falls will become quite sticky. You wouldn't wish to risk dropping into it with little momentum.

Third_Falls   Beyond this next, larger pool lie some more rapids and Third Falls. This is a much shorter falls (about 1-2').  However, the right side has an interesting, small "chicken-ender" slot, and some surfing may develop at high water.

Fourth_Falls   Downstream about a half mile there is a Fourth Falls, where the river is constricted by some rocks to drop over an irregular falls of about 4-5'.  This falls is less playable than the ones right in the park, but is an interesting run.
Note: Vidcaps (photos) from low-water scout (1993.06.05).

The river upstream and down from the described area is almost exclusively flat water and snags, therefore not recommended as a run. While there are marked "falls" upstream (at the confluence of the two branches) they are not as big nor as interesting as the ones in Veteran's Park.
