Glenn's journal entry
Glenn's journal entry for the first day was made before we left.
The real flaw in Glenn and I deciding to go on a 2000km bike trip was that we had no idea what the hell we were doing. Neither of us had ever done anything like it, and we didn't know what we needed to bring. We decided to bring everything. We took way more stuff than we needed, most of it we left at the cottage. When we left Cobourg on that first day, we were travelling at about 18km/h, and we said, "Wow, this is pretty easy". Our reasoning was that we needed only to bike for about 4 or 5 hours a day, and we could meet our goals. We later realized that it wasn't easy, except when it's downhill, and that our goals were stupid.
As you can see, other than ass pain, it was all fairly simple. While our goal had been to cover about 25-30km, we covered 57km. This trend of overshooting our goals would lead to us making it to Vermont in 4 days instead of 12. Here's my first day's entry in our journal.
