Overseas Filipinos to mount more Oust Gloria protests with death of impeachment
Overseas Filipinos and their families will mount more protests for Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's ouster with the impending death of efforts to get her impeached.
“Macapagal-Arroyo's Congress allies have stubbornly refused to bring out the truth. Her adamant refusal to go through the impeachment process is construed as a sign of being guilty for corruption, betrayal of public trust, electoral fraud and human rights violations against political dissidents. Congresspersons must remember that as people's representatives, they are not accountable to Macapagal-Arroyo. They are accountable to their constituents for their actions. Those who suppressed the truth by killing the amended impeachment complaint, have betrayed their constituents who want to know the truth,” MIGRANTE Sectoral Party chairperson Connie Bragas-Regalado said.
Migrante chapters in Metro Manila, the provinces and in 22 countries abroad are preparing various protest activities to press for Arroyo's ouster in the coming days.
“The eventual result of the devious numbers game and influence peddling with the people's funds in Congress would be decided by intense public pressure here and abroad. By concealing the truth, Arroyo her operators and allies in Congress will only push more people to go to the parliament of the streets,” Bragas-Regalado said.
“We call on lawmakers who supported the impeachment complaint to push on with the fight to expose the corruption of the illegitimate president and support the growing movement that is demanding Arroyo's ouster. Her refusal to resign or go through an impeachment trial has left all of us with no recourse but to work for her ouster. We can only make an anti-migrant and anti-people president face the consequences of her actions by removing her from office,” she ended. #
