MATRIX OF MIGRANTE SECTORAL PARTY POSITIONS
ON SPECIFIC SENATE BILLS OF THE THIRTEENTH CONGRESS

Senate Bill Number
(1) SB 158

Author
Sen. Luisa Ejercito Estrada

Senate Bill Number
(2) SB 1105

Author
Sen. Franklin Drilon

Senate Bill Number
(3) SB 1385

Author
Sen. Ralph Recto

Bill Title
An Act Strengthening the Regulatory Functions of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Amending for this Purpose Republic Act No. 8042, Otherwise Known as the "Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995"

MIGRANTE position
The MIGRANTE Sectoral Party fully supports Senate Bill Numbers 158, 1105 and 1385 that all aim to strengthen the regulatory functions of the POEA and the Philippine government in general on recruitment activities for overseas employment.

Migrante has been clamoring for the repeal of Sections 29 and 30 since the law was enacted in 1995. These sections permit government to abandon its responsibility to protect OFWs by deregulating the recruitment and deployment of workers by stating "migration of workers becomes strictly a matter between the worker and his foreign employer."
