Holding Back the Flame
Someone new comes through every other day
So blind to people doing things their own way
You can’t hold back the lives of a people who once were free
It’s a toxic mix of lies, just tempting you to breath.
Let’s sit around and wait for who sells out their past first
That one’s not a loss but the last would be the worst
The strong kill, they’re of stuff you never knew
They live hard and if they fall they’ll know it’s you.
An old man is walking by, but we’ve heard it all before
You have no secrets for me and I can listen to your tales no more
We know what we have, don’t tell me, I’m not grateful
I take it all for granted, better that way than being hateful.
Is it a sin to live with no sorrow or regrets?
I was not there for the worst, not like I can forget
The young seek, there’s a fire for something new
They live fast, a desire to take it all of you.
We’re all the same, we won’t stand a change
No range of alteration will be alright
We’re something tame, we take it in stride
Inside we all meant well.
But you can’t hold back that flame.
