What's a Hero?

There’s a monster’s den and you’ve lost your only friend,
You can’t breath and you’re starving for sunlight.
You start to see just what you can be,
Forget everything except this one night.
You’re standing tall and you’ll take them all,
You never wanted to go where fear goes.
You pray to wake and to learn it’s all just fake,
Cause no one wants to be a hero.

I never wanted to walk right through the fire,
But I’ll follow you if you led me to burning pyre.
Take me through the mountains away from all I knew,
You must understand me now, there’s something that I must see through.

At your side, else we’d both have died,
When darkness comes and you start falling.
Two of a kind, and by oath did we bind,
To stand by you while evil’s calling.
Sworn in safer land, yet my promise will stand,
I’ll dive in wherever fear goes.
Anyone else I know and I would never go,
But for you I can be a hero.

I’ve never wanted to be sung about in songs,
I never dreamed that I would right the world’s wrongs.
But sometimes when night’s too dark and no one dares go where fear goes,
I will close my eyes and dive, because we need a hero.

I see it in your eyes that your pain’s too much to handle,
Grab my hand in the deadly dark and I will be your candle.
This darkness is a passing thing and even evil ends,
Clouds are breaking in the eastern sky and life goes on my friend.
