Ring Bearer

I’ve had a dream that makes my blood cold
It’s in a place with a sickly sky
My own strength fails next tempting gold
But hopes renewed that brighten my eye
A rock wall up against my hope
Chance be with me, here I go
Struggling, tumbling for some rope
Dark to darker on paths I don’t know.

Wake me up for a real-life nightmare
Hold me back from killing our dreams
Take my hand from bleeding myself
Brace yourself for the demon’s screams.
Fate did take me to this standing
Hope kept me here with foolish aim
So straight to fire or back to death?
If I keep straight I’ll make them know my name.

Weight so stifling makes me bow
Don’t you dare try to share my pain
If only home could see me now
Breaking myself for others’ gain
Ropes unnatural tying me down
Feel the bite with strength of night
Lost myself, will I ever be found?
Tightened grip brings forth the light.

Pick me up for this real-life fairy tale
Open my eyes to see this hell
Hold my hand and tell me we’re alive
And we’ll get back with a story to tell
Dodge that shadow with tight gripped hands
We’ll not lose at his deadly game
I will march to evil’s doorstep
Beckoning the Devil so he knows my name.

Just stay back from my real-life fantasy
Playing my part until this end
Claiming my own in the glowing fire
Cast back the cloak to break my friend
Thrown back to honesty by my nightmares
Saved at the last by a greed untamed
And here loyal friend at the end of all things
Darkness rolls back and I know my name.
