Dear Norma,
Linda called a few minutes ago, they arrived safely yesterday afternoon after driving in snow. Today she said they were supposed to have freezing rain so it is good they got their yesterday. All okay and had just had a good breakfast after spending the night in a motel where the toilet didn't work very good! They were going into the hospital at 9:30 to get Mike started on pre-op tests and then look for a hotel to stay the rest of the time in. Then the phone went out of order and hope it comes back soon so I can get their messages. It must be my phone that is out of order.

Fwd: Jay's call re Mike Walters update
Sorry I did not get this off last night. I got sick & didn't check my computer.

Jay just called (8:20 PM) to bring us up to date, and asked that we pass this along. Their day has been filled with all the prep details, with which they have been very much impressed. He feels that all the work so far has gone very well, and they feel confident in the many workers they have met. Michel is "a bit edgy", possibly, but all in all quite at ease. Surgery is planned for 7:30 AM tomorrow (Friday) and will take 6 to 8 hours. Jay will call us when he has anything further to report. They have found a surprisingly nice hotel, with a shuttle right to the hospital. (Driving down was tough, because of icy weather in Virginia.) Will be in touch.

Fwd: Hospital & Hotel
Hi everybody,
I thought I should let those of you who don't know me who I am. I am Linda's cousin. We grew up together in Burnt Hills. I started using computers in 1966 & am fairly comfortable with them, so I offered Mike to do his updates while he is recuperating. I had a few requests for information about where Mike will be for cards & flowers, I asked Aunt Shirley & she sent me the following. I was going to add it to note on surgery, but still have not heard from anyone, so I thought you all would like to know we still are waiting for word on Mike's surgery. I'll email as soon as it comes.

I got your first copy of what I had sent you alright and your email asking for the hospital name. Linda gave me the hotel name and room number. Millenium Hotel, phone 919-383-8575, room 318. Durham, N.C. As for the hospital, Duke Hospital North she said and mike was on the 4th floor, but he will be in ICU for awhile and then am not sure what his room will be. Also, he will be back to the hotel room if all goes well by the end of the week. When she calls after surgery today I will try to find out more information about sending him flowers. Thanks much, hope you are feeling better.

Report after seeing Mike in ICU
Hi Norma,
Linda called a few minutes ago . . . she couldn't get to a phone and they had returned to their motel room after seeing Mike in ICU. He was talking to them and moving his left side okay. He had been on his left side during surgery and his back was bothering him some. But his spirits were good and they were happy about the way he was doing and the care he was getting.
Linda said he may even be able to come to the motel room Sunday. He will be close by to the hospital if he has any problems. The stitches will come out in 10 days. They will be moving to a room with a microwave soon, but the address of the hotel is: Millennium Hotel Durham, 2800 Campus Walk Ave. Durham, N.C. 27705.
Mike will be out of ICU tomorrow but we don't know his room number and if anyone wants to send a card send it to the hotel. I sent the phone number of the hotel in previous email.
