Subject Fwd: Linda's call

I am sending this to our boys, following Linda's call.  -  Howard.

Linda phoned here this morning, but I am afraid there is no clear, significant change to report, at least not for the better.  She says Michael is having seizures, is quite weak, and is not able to eat well enough to regain his strength.   He is under heavy medication, and the pain is reasonable under control.  He is having some difficulty using his left hand.  They are not planning second surgery right now, and are waiting for the pathology report, which should come today or tomorrow.  He is a very sick young man, and needs your full prayer support.

Subject Fwd: Update 3-6 Mike

Dear Norma,
Linda called last night (wed.) with news of Mike . . . yesterday  they did another CAT scan and saw an improvement from the previous one . . . did more tests which indicated Mike could undergo another surgery.  So all indications are to proceed with a second surgery soon.   The biopsy report should be ready today.  Mike is still having seizures and experiencing some paralysis on his left side.  Linda or Amy are with Mike 24 hours a day and if we keep Mike in our prayers it will give all of them courage and strength to help Mike through this next surgery.

Subject: Mike's second surgery

I just got a call from Linda, Mike is scheduled for his second sugery today at 11:30 AM.  He is still having seizures & they are monitoring him and may change their minds before 11:30 as to what they will do.  Linda says surgery will be about 5 hours long, so its going to be a long afternoon.  His vital signs are still good, so that is very positive.  I'll keep you posted as I get info.

Subject: Mike's Surgery 3/6/03

Linda just called.  Good News! Mike is out of surgery & they got most of the tumor.  He has been talking to Linda & Amy.  He has come through very good.  The weakness in his left side does not seem to be worse at this point.  They did a CAT Scan after the operation to make sure there had been no stroke during the operation.  Mike will have to work on getting his strength back on his left side as he gets better.  He has been having seizures as I said before & they did not start surgery until about an hour after expected because they were checking to make sure everything was safe to proceed.  We can let out our breath for a bit, but still worry about the stress the operation has caused on the brain.  I guess we let one breath out and hold another.

Subject: Fwd: Day after 2nd surgery

Dear Norma,
Just had a phone call from Linda and Mike had a good day.  He had a seizure at 6:30 AM and none since.  They have him on an EEG machine to monitor him.  He is still in the ICU.  Linda said he has been joking about things and planning on getting home soon.  He was able to hold a cup of tea in his left hand okay.  Amazingly he thinks he is better after the second surgery than the first one.  Jay and Mark arrrived today and Amy and Mark will stay and return home next Tuesday.  Jay is staying with Linda until they bring Mike to the hotel and then home.  Keep up the prayers and best wishes for Mike.....sounds like they are working wonders.

Subject: Fwd: Sun. 3/9 Mike's update

Dear Norma,
Linda just called this mornig and Mike is doing pretty good...ate a good breakfast this morning.  He is still in ICU and is on several medications yet, but he is not having the severe pain this time after surgery that he had the first time.  Amy and Mark stayed at the hospital last night so Linda and Jay were able to get some rest.  Linda thinks he will be moved to his room today and off some of the medications.  He is still experiencing some paralysis, but that should improve.

Subject: Fwd: Michael

Jay just called (9:30 PM 3/8) in general, everything with Michael is on the upturn.  There are some seizures, poor appetite, weakness, etc.  He is still in ICU, largely because that is the only place where all the necessary monitors are available.  He, by his statement, is having very much less pain.  From here on, we can continue praying for his day to day improvement.  There doesn't seem to be any weakness on his left side.

Love, Mom and Dad
