Line of people waiting to get into Windsor Castle to place flowers in memory of Princess Diana the evening before her funeral. The rainbow was a pleasant effect.

Windsor

It's hard to believe that such a town that has such a small feel can exist so close to London. But, Windsor does exist, and it still satisfies even the most rabid tourist. Even the Thames doesn't have that dirty grey look that it does in London. The town is very quaint; but, the tourist comes for the castle.

The courtyard of the upper part of the castle. The State Apartments are in the buildings in the picture.

Windsor Castle - It's not cheap to enter. Entrance price is £9.80 if you want to see everything, £8.80 if you want to avoid Queen Mary's Dollhouse. There aren't any student discounts and you can't take pictures inside the buildings. Despite the steep price, the Castle is worth visiting. Most of the damage from the 1992 fire has been repaired, so the rooms in the State Apartments are back to their pre-fire glory. Both the State Apartments and St. George's Chapel are fascinating to visit. Any visitor who's staying in London for more than 4 days should make a visit to Windsor Castle.

Places to Eat - We ate at Bella Roma which is next to the Theatre Royal on Thames St. at the base of the castle. The food was very good and very filling. The garlic bread should be included in any order - it's that good. Most entrees cost about £8.00.

St. George's Chapel - the choir screen is in the center of the picture. Behind that screen is the tombs of Queen Anne, King Henry VIII, and King George III.
