The mummified cat and mouse in the crypt of Christ Church Cathedral.

Christ Church Cathedral

So, how did we recover from our visit to St. Michan's and its mummies? By seeing more mummified corpses at Christ Church Cathedral! Actually, there are only two mummified corpses in Christ Church, and they are of a cat and a mouse. They were found in one of the pipes of the organ while it was being cleaned in the 1860's. Apparently, the cat chased the mouse into the pipe, got stuck in it, and died. They were removed and placed in a glass case in the crypt.

Other than the cat and the mouse, there really isn't much that caught my attention in Christ Church. The building was heavily remodeled in the late 1800s and thus doesn't really look as old as it actually is. There is the supposed tomb of Strongbow, the Norman conqueror of Ireland, in the nave. However, it is in poor condition - the result of the roof collapsing on it in the 1500s.

Not much to see here. Just stand outside and take pictures to show that you were there. If you do want to go in, it will set you back IŁ1.00.
