Brian Wakefield
- drums
I was born in St. Louis in 1973 to
a strict but lovable mother. She bought me my first drum set
when I was about four years old. Of course, back then I could
only bang senslessly on them, and I did it for hours. So she
sold them.
Later I got into violin, and stayed
with it for six years. That taught me a lot about music, and
therefore was an invaluable experience.
In high school I took up drums again,
much to the chagrin of my mother. I played with several garage
bands but none of them ever got off the ground. After many
frustrating years, I had given up hope of becoming a rock
star. So this time I sold my drums, and bought a bunch of
hockey goalie equipment.
I played hockey for a total of nine
years, the last four of which were spent on a team sponsored
by Syberg's. We won several tournaments and placed
well in many others. Overall, our team maintained a win percent
of over .500.

When I first met James,
Tom, and Eric,
I saw talent but never imagined they could be so dedicated.
For our first practice, I played on a really crappy kit with
warped heads, no hi-hat, and just one cymbal (which had a
crack in it). I thought I sounded terrible but they asked
me back and it's been an incredible ride ever since. We added
Nick and changed bass players just
before our first demo recording, which was admittedly a risky
move. Looking back, I think we made the right decision. However,
our first bass player, who happens to be named Bass, deserves
credit for helping things get rolling. He was an invaluable
tool in the writing of My Life, Chamber, and Crush.
In 1999, I sold my goalie equipment,
so now there's no turning back. I hope our fans and anyone
who hears our work will relate to it the same way I do.
