There are many commands in MRA; this chapter covers most of them (see below), along with their uses, and some other useful bits of information about commands in general. This chapter does not cover spells used as commands, or combat actions - those are discused in their respective chapters.
The following list is divided into two parts - general commands, which can be used anywhere, and are more common; and special commands, which can only be used with specific NPCs (often only one in particular). General commands can often be used on their own, with no parameters, but the syntax for special commands is always [name], COMMAND (and any parameters, if applicable).

ACT: Performs actions visible in chat. For example, "ACT bows" would appear as "[character name] bows". Unlike the DO command (q.v.), these actions are not visible to those nearby.

BANDAGE: Binds wounds to stop bleeding, or heals wounds. See Other Combat Effects for more details.

CLIMB: Used to move over obstacles that normally block movement (rubble, tables, counters, etc.). Rarely, the character fails to climb over the obstacle; simply try again until he can.

CLOSE: Used to close doors. Must be typed with a direction (N, S, E, W).

CRT: When used with a parameter (see below), this command can be used for a variety of things:
DO: Enables you do perform actions. For example, "DO bows" would appear as "[character name] bows". These actions are seen only by those in the immediate area, as opposed to the ACT command (q.v.).

DRAW: Draws the last weapon belted and puts it in your right hand.

DRINK: Drinks a potion. The game checks the right hand first; if there is no potion there, then it checks the belt. If no number is specified, it will drink the first potion on the belt; otherwise, it checks the slot number and drinks that one instead (i.e., DRINK 5 drinks the potion in the 5th slot on the belt).

DUMP: Dumps the contents of a container onto the ground. Usually used with SACK or PACK. Containers can also be dumped in a specific direction (onto a counter to the N, e.g.).

EMSG: Used to send an E-Message (like an e-mail, but in-game) to another player. In order to do so, you must be standing at your desk; some places allow you to send EMSGs to LORs specifically.

  EXIT: Exits the game.

FOLLOW: Can only be used while in a group. The character follows the leader of a group one space behind.

FORGET: Used to erase a TP from memory. This command can either be used while on a TP (in which case only FORGET is needed) or elsewhere (in which case, the command must have a parameter - e.g., FORGET USWICK).

GIVE: Gives an item to another person. In order to do so, you must have the item in your right hand, and the recipient's right hand must also be empty. In certain cases, you can give items or money to an NPC.

GROUP: used to create a group, or join an existing one. In either case, a group name must be specified; if you are the first one in the group, you are considered the leader.

HELP: Brings up a help file on the particular subject (which must be typed after the HELP command).

LOOK: Used to view the area, or can be used to examine a monster, character, or object. If there is a message associated with the area in question, it repeats that message; if there is a message on a wall nearby, it will repost that message. If there is no message, you are told what surface the character is standing on (wood, grass, stone, etc.).
Using LOOK with a monster or character's name will display the monster type or class/level and any gear worn or carried. (As a side note, room lockers have mirrors in them; typing LOOK while standing in front of the locker shows you as others would see you.)
Using LOOK with an item (by typing the command and clicking on the item) shows the item's type; if it is a weapon or armor, it also shows craft level, material, and enchantment, if any.

LOOT: Picks up any money/gems on the ground in your square and places them in your pouch.

MACRO: Creates a macro. Once you use the command, hit the CTRL-key combo you wish to set, then type the command and hit enter. The macro is then saved.

MEMORIZE: Adds a TP to memory. To use this command, the character must be standing on the TP in question; simply type MEMORIZE without any parameters.

  OPEN: Used to open a door. Must include a direction (N, E, W, S).

PEEK: "Virtually" moves the character one square in the direction indicated (for example, PEEK N) so that you can see the view from that square. The character suffers no ill effects from being in that square (e.g., drowning, effects from spells, etc.), as he is not truly in that square. Tpying PEEK again (with or without parameters) moves the character back to his original space.

READ: Displays the contents of a book. This command can only be used at a desk with a book (training books, high score lists in pubs, etc.).

READY: The character stands ready to receive an attack. If you are readied, a charging monster makes its attack at +6, but you can make a counterattack at +6.

RECALL: Calls the priests of the church to retrieve your dead body and resurrect it. This command cannot be executed while there is combat in sight of the dead character.

  SAVE: Saves your current settings.

SCRY: Shows what characters are currently in the land, their levels, where they are, and what chat channel (if any) they are in. The letter in <> after the name is the chat channel: C (Chat, E (Event), H (Hunt), N (New), P (Prime), * (None or private). Can only be used at the desk in your room, or any table/desk in a pub.

SEARCH: Searches the current square for items and money. You can set the level of items to display with the CRT S command (see above).

SENSE: Identifies items by level and type. Can only be used if the character is wearing a Sense ring, or can cast the Sense spell.

SET: This command can accomplish a variety of functions, depending on the parameter:
SLEEP: Used to recover lost stamina. Can only be used while standing on the bed in your room, or the one in the Haven Common Room.

STAND: The character stands in place and does not take any action. This is best for quick stamina recovery. If you are attacked while standing, you will automatically defend yourself.

  STATS: Displays the character's stats.

TAKE: Takes a specific item (if named), or all items of a given level (if the level is stated) and places them in your sack. Must be used with a parameter (the item name or the level number).

TELL [name]: Sends a telepathic message to the person named. You cannot TELL someone two or more levels higher unless you are in the same guild or are on each other's friends list (see "Friends," Chapter 9). Related commands are TELL GROUP (sends a tell to all members of the current group) and TELL GUILD (does the same for any guild members online).

TP: Used to teleport to a given location. The TP command must be followed by a valid teleportal (TP USWICK, e.g.). This command can only be used while on a teleportal.

TP RETURN: Returns the character to the last teleportal used, and reduces Stamina, Karma, and Mana to half their previous levels. This command can be used anywhere, but not while the character is in combat.

TRAIN: Used to train a skill. This command can be used in any trainer; the syntax is [trainer name], TRAIN [skill]. If used with no parameters, you will train for the next level, if you have enough XP for it.

TUNE: Used to change chat channels. Typing TUNE without any parameters leaves the room you are currently in.

UNLOCK: Unlocks a door in the direction specified. You must have a key or other object designated as a key to unlock the door, except for inn room/private house doors (only the designated person can open them) and doors to guild halls (anyone in the guild can open them).

WIELD: Changes the way an assassin holds his dagger. Holding it one way enables assassins to BACKSTAB, while holding it the other way enables them to SNUFF (see Assassins for more details).

Special Commands
BALANCE: Used to determine the bank balance. Can only be used in a bank or trainer; syntax is [name], BALANCE.

BUY: Used to buy training points (not items). If you say BUY with no parameters, you buy all the TRP, unless you don't have enough money. If, for some reason, you are broke or do not wish to buy all the available TRP, you enter the number of TRP you wish to buy after the BUY command.

DEDICATE: Used to 'become' specific class. In order to dedicate, you must go to the trainer for that class and say [name], DEDICATE. Knights also use this command to specialize in a given weapon (in this case, the weapon name comes after DEDICATE).

DEPOSIT: Used to add wealth to your bank account in the form of money, gems, or items. Only money can be deposited at a bank, but anything can be deposited at a trainer.

HERO: When used with Marcel in Verbonic, this command grants the character a hero quest. The player must type in the stat(s) to be increased after the HERO command.

MORPH: Used to "reroll" a character. When this command is used (it can only be done with Elsa, in Verbonic), the character is reduced to basic level, as if just starting out, but he retains his stats, TPs (though level restrictions apply), and gear. The only things a player can change this way are the character's name and his class.

SELL: Used to buy things (of course). Typical syntax is [name], SELL[item]. When buying more than one of the same item, add a number after the item; if you are buying a ring, potion, or other item with a level, use "L##" instead.

SPECIALIZE: Similar to the second use of DEDICATE, this command is used by knights to specialize in a weapon, or by wizards to specialize in a type of magic. It can only be used with the knight or wizard trainer.

WITHDRAW: Withdraws money from your bank account. Must be used with a number ([name], WITHDRAW ##).
