Editorial…
As 1999 draws to a close and the new millennium dawns over the horizon, it is time to ink up the lithograph, prepare the lettering plates and to sacrifice a few trees to bring to you an end-of the century’ issue of “Model East”. For the uninitiated, IPMS (North Brisbane Inc.) held its first meeting on the 16th of January 1991 – nine founding members attended, along with four visitors…. The Club’s first President being Jim Dorsett. Since that date, the club has met at Aspley East Primary School every month without fail and the club’s membership has moved into three figures, an extremely pleasing achievement It is my belief that IPMS North Brisbane can attribute it continued success to the high standard of competition which exists within the club, the almost endless wealth of knowledge of members on respective subjects and the individual talents and ideas which are willing shared around amongst its members. One of the strengths of the club has lain with its Junior Ranks and it is understandable that numbers are difficult to maintain for a variety of reasons, but I believe it is up to all of us to recruit and foster younger modellers. In the mid 90’s the club boasted up to ten Juniors and the standards they achieved has been recognized through their successes in Open state and interstate competitions. Who was around when I was a youngster with a piece of plastic in one hand, a tube of Tarzans Grip in the other and tins of Taubmanns house paint in front of me? Enough said! On the competition battlefield over the past eight or nine years, the achievements of the club are almost legendary – our Battle Honours are many and we guard them with pride. The Club’s reputation as a success in the arena of the competition table continues to be demonstrated in the face of great rivalry during the annual Hobby Expo when those seemingly endless hours of work and sweat and tears are hopefully rewarded on the winner’s dais. On behalf of the executive, I take this opportunity to wish you all well for the festive season…. Enjoy a safe and relaxed holiday period and all the best for Y2K. My thanks to the out-going Executive and a special thanks to the ‘twins’ Dave Sturdy and Bruce Hall of the Social Committee who now have two final opportunities to bring about a coup; firstly the social meeting on the 15th of December and the club Christmas Party on the9th of January 2000. Happy Modelling David Roach
