The first known instance of the Museum of Modern Oddities was in a train station. It was a collection of the lost and found installed in empty luggage lockers.
The first official Australian manifestation of MoMo took place in late 2000 when MoMO created an ephemeral museum in the public area of the new Melbourne Museum.
The Museum of Modern Oddities (Melb.) is an ephemeral museum that manifests for short periods in different settings to draw focus to the ordinary, the everyday and those things that have been discarded, overlooked or are on the cusp of disappearing. It is a museum in process, a site sensitive institution in a state of constant becoming.
MoMO will be located temporarily in an old hardware shop in inner city Melbourne until mid-November before reappearing in a yet to be disclosed location in the future.
