Hail, milord, milady! Welcome to our world! In our society, out of its time frame as it may be, we work to re-create the Middle Ages (the brutal times with knights, 1066-1485) and Renaissance (rebirth, good times with knights, 1485-1660). Some of us study the Middles East, or interactions betwen Europe and Asia from 1066-1660. Others just re-create European trends. The SCA spans all of the globe, but is most concentrated in the USA and Canada. It was incoporated (inc.) in 1968, but does recognize a tournament in Berkley, CA on May 1, 1966 as its founding date. It is a participatory event, rather than a spectator occurence, as is the Renaissance Festival.

Your kingdom is determined by your geographic location. Because I live in Arizona, my kingdom is Atenveldt. The link lower on this page will help you find your kingdom. The kingdoms do not have many similarities, but they do build their laws and customs based upon the Corpora, the overall rules or the society. The kingdoms are broken down into smaller parts, which meet regularly in the same location. For example, I go about every Wednesday to the "real-life" Encanto Park to particiapte in the Barony of Atenveldt. But there are others principalities in the area.

Medieval garb is worn to the meetings, thought it's not a requirement. Many people bring crafts of period-relevant relics to trade, sell, share or give. Some members battle with false weaopons and makeshift armor. At my particular location, a great deal of the field is for battle, and the edges are reserved for the market row, and clan areas, where sweaty warriors go to rest. Yes, the barony has smaller groups! It's actually a very safe place, because honor is at stake!

The SCA is a chance to relax and enjoy another world. One is treated with respect and courtesy, just as in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Honor and courtesy are the core of the Society. There are many respectful terms, and garments to denote rank. Since someone can become a "knight" in more than just fighting (literature, crafts, art, etc) or *possibly* royalty, it can really help out after a stressful day! We can be just about whoever we want! Truly, it's like living in medieval times, but only once a week. We choose our names and craft, and go from there. I really love to put on my dress and be treated like a Lady!
