Week 10 Match-ups

Rynos (9-0) vs. Assassins (7-2)
***Matchup of the week***  This is the match-up we've been looking forward to, but with the Assassins recent losing streak and with the Rynos almost tying up the NFL championship, it's lost some of it's importance.  Regardless, this pits two of the top teams against each other in what might be a playoff preview.  The Rynos' magic number is only 2 (i.e. 2 more Ryno Wins or 2 StiffArm losses) to win the NFL, and with a roster that has had five different players score at least 20 points in one week, can win with ANY position.  The Assassins' have lost two in a row, and are probably feeling the pressure of the other two CFL contenders, but are still scoring strongly, and will hopefully have a healthy Fred Taylor back this week.

Marauders (3-6) vs. Hooligans (5-4)

The Marauders are now playing for next year (or the most points award) as they have been officially eliminated from the NFL championship.  They can also play spoiler to the Hooligans who enjoy a one game lead in the XFL.  This week could be big as the Green brothers (Trent & Ahman) go up against very poor defenses.  The Hooligans have to try to hang on, and are getting fierce pressure by their division rivals who are only 1 game back, and average less than 1 point per game off from the Hooligans average.  The Hooligans also enjoy a good schedule this week except for their MVP Curtis Martin who plays against the stiff Baltimore Ravens Defense.
Chargers (4-5) vs. SmackDownSister (4-5)
These two teams have 1 game in common - the Chargers face elimination with either a single loss or a single Ryno win while SDS is only 1 game behind the Division leading Hooligans.  With the likelihood of the Chargers making the Championship, they are now playing for next year and for the points title. This week they get their Tennessee trio back as they play against the enigmatic Bears who can be awesome or horrible even in a single game.  SDS has that Bears defense, and can hope for the "double-whammy" if they can keep the Chargers players from scoring and put up big points themselves.  Add in the A-Train running for SDS, and that will be the key game for these opponents.

StiffArms (5-4) vs. Phatbacks (3-6)

Talk about two teams with disappointments last week.  The StiffArms had a huge come from behind win but with a Ryno win, don't come any closer in the NFL.  The PhatBacks scored 61 points and ended up losing to the top scoring team.  Now these teams are looking to the points title and probably seeding in the Consolation bracket.  The StiffArms superstar Daunte Culpepper will be up against the weak Green Bay secondary and could have a huge week   The PhatBacks have Peyton Manning (too bad this game wasn't last week!) who will be in a huge divisional game against the Houston Texans.

Ketchup Hotdog (5-4) vs. Hitmen (4-5)

This game is the runner up for the game of the week.  These two teams are trailing their division leaders by only a game or two, and both score more points than the division leader.  Both teams are also tied with another team.  Winning this week would be huge for each team, and may spell their future going into the last 4 weeks of the season.  KH is currently the leader of the wildcard race, and has possibly the best fantasy player this year in Tiki Barber.  The Hitmen will be without their top running back and will be hoping TJ Duckett will produce a touchdown or two against the tough Tampa Bay defense.

JYDs (5-4) vs. Quiet Storm (0-9)

Can the Quiet Storm win a game?  The JYDs can't look at this game as a "sure win" since over the past 3 weeks the QS has made all their games close, losing by a total of 23 points.  The JYDs could use the easy game to put them one game closer to the division leading Assassins and should have a huge week as David Carr goes up against the Colts defense and Priest Holms runs against the horrible NO Saints defense.  QS seems to be coming around slowly and almost got a victory for the second time only to be beaten by a Monday night performance.  The good news is that they have Andre Johnson, so each touchdown that Carr throws to Johnson will net QS double what it gives the JYDs.

Transactions, Week 10

Poll

We currently weight defenses that hold teams to very low scoring very strongly, which means the average defense scores the majority of their points by generating turnovers and sacks.  I'm wondering if we should change this to incorporate yardage allowed and/or increase the weighting on points allowed.  If there is enough interest (i.e. more than 8 votes "for" a change), I will create polls in the future to go through some options (i.e. no change will be done based on the answers here).

Should we change Defensive Scoring?
Yes - we need a change
No - I like it the way it is.

Week 10 Results (Finals)

Assassins 83

Rynos 50

Hooligans 152

Marauders 30

SmackDownSister 88

Chargers 44

In one of the biggest games this year, the Assassins end the Rynos record setting win streak at 9 games.  More importantly, the Assassins take another game lead in the CFL moving back into divisional play.  The Patriots Defense had a great game allowing only one touchdown while getting 5 take-aways and 3 sacks.  The Rynos only had one player make double-digits as Jimmy Smith had over 100 yards and a score. The "Polar Opposite Bowl".  The Hooligans set an all-time record for most points in a week smashing the Rynos' record from week 13 last year by 29 points while the Marauders set a new 2004 record for fewest points in a week coming very close to the lowest all-time.  The Hooligans had seven players score 14 or more points, but were lead by Ex-Marauders players  Mushin Muhammed and Terrell Owens who had over 120 yards receiving and scored 3 touchdowns.  SmackDownSister wins and moves into a virtual tie with the Hitmen one game behind the HooligansSDS had a huge day out of the Bears defense who allowed 17 points but had 3 sacks, 3 take-aways, a touchdown and a safety as well as a blocked kick.  Domanick Davis also had over 150 yards of offense and scored two touchdowns.  This loss eliminates the Chargers from the NFL championship race despite another strong day by Deuce McCalister who had over 125 yards and a score.

StiffArms 82

PhatBacks 62

Hitmen 69

Ketchup Hotdog 55

Quiet Storm 75

JYDs 45

The StiffArms stay alive in the NFL, but still only by one game.  Daunte Culpepper was once again their star with over 350 passing yards and four touchdowns, barely outperforming the PhatBacks QB Peyton Manning who threw for 320 yards and five touchdowns, but had two interceptions.  This loss eliminates the PhatBacks from contention in the CFL playoff race. The Hitmen remain one game behind the Hooligans in the XFL, and are tied with SmackDownSister in that spot.  They had a great performance for a bye-week-fill-in that was added through trade just before the start of the games as Derrick Blaylock had over 200 yards of offense and scored a touchdown.  KH had another great game from Tiki Barber with 160 total yards and a touchdown. THE QUIET STORM WINS ON MONDAY NIGHT!!!  The Quiet Storm has finally won a game thanks to the Monday Night performance by Jason Whitten who scored two TDs.  Kevin Barlow also rushed for 2 touchdowns and had  51 total yards for the day.  The JYD's had a huge let-down from David Carr who was playing one of the worst defenses in football and came up with negative points (215 yards, 3 INTs, 1 fumble, 10 rushing yards, 0 TDs).
