Week 4 Match-ups

Chargers (1-2) vs Ketchup Hotdog (1-2)

***Matchup of the week***  Both of these teams play in divisions with undefeated leaders, and this is almost a must win for both of them.  The Chargers are in some serious trouble after losing their star Running Back in week 2, and with injuries to their starting QB may be looking for help.  New free agent Tyrone Wheatley will take the starting role, and as Tennessee plays San Diego, they can look for a big game from any TEN player healthy enough to play. KH's team has started to roll, and boasts one of the best WR corps in the league, along with a very deep running team.  They will be without star Wide Receiver Randy Moss this week, but have Marc Bulger and Isacc Bruce going up against the voted "worst team in the NFL" SF 49ers.

Marauders (0-3) vs Assassins (3-0)

On paper, this looks like a really bad match-up.  On the field it looks like a really bad match-up.  This could be embarrassing.  The Marauders once again have a number of tough match-ups including key games against Tampa Bay (QB) and  Jacksonville/Giants (RBs).  On the other side, the Assassins have games against Arizona (QB) and Kansas City/Indianapolis (RBs).  Add into the equation the vastly superior WRs of the Assassins, and the Assassins should win by at least 40 points.
Quiet Storm (0-3) vs. Rynos (3-0)
Another ugly ugly game this week as another winless team takes on an undefeated team.  The good news for the Quiet Storm is that they are getting two top players back - Chad Pennington and Santana Moss.  The bad news is that they're going up against the Dolphins - a team that boasts a strong defense and can be beaten by a field goal (and I mean - "score one field goal, and Miami has lost").  The Rynos bring one of the strongest teams to 2004 again, and have their top starters back in as Tom Brady has finished his bye.

StiffArms (2-1) vs SmackDownSister (1-2)

The StiffArms are off to a good start and are currently the highest scoring team.  Since Minnesota is on a bye, they will be without a few of their best players, but with Clinton Portis running against the Cleveland Browns, they may not need much help.  SmackDownSister had a whole lot of bad luck last week as three of their RBs went down with injuries.  They also have a few tough match-ups as their solid Defense Jacksonville is up against the red-hot Indi offense and Domanic Davis goes up against the solid Oakland front four.  But with McNabb throwing against Chicago, they may not need that many points from the rest of their team.

PhatBacks (1-2) vs. Hitmen (2-1)

The PhatBacks team comes and goes with Peyton Manning, and this week he's up against the tough Jacksonville Defense.  New team-member Quintin Griffen will have to generate more than 0 points this week, and probably should as he's up against the Tampa Defense - a team that allowed Tyrone Wheatley to rush for over 100 yards.  The Hitmen have got their team rolling, and are once again the team with the most points scored against them.  They are without two of their top players as Hasselbeck is on a bye, but Carson Palmer will be playing against Pittsburgh which should be a solid match-up.

JYDs (2-1) vs Hooligans (2-1)

The JYD's lost their first game of the year last week as their top performers Faulk & Holmes only scored one touchdown combined.  They can expect better production from Faulk this week as he goes up against the useless SF defense, but Holmes will be in for another tough week as he plays against Baltimore.  The Hooligans also lost their first of the year and dropped from #1 in scoring all the way down to #6.  The Hooligans should be able to do a whole lot better this week as they have key match-ups against Chicago, Arizona and Cincinnati, but weaknesses at Running Back may leave them a little short.

Week 4 Results (Preliminary)

Ketchup Hotdog 67

Chargers 53

Assassins 51

Marauders 42

Rynos 53

Quiet Storm 44

Ketchup Hotdog wins a huge game over the Chargers to remain two games behind the division leading Assassins.  This was also KH's second straight week as the #1 scoring team, and they take over the top-scoring team (non-division leader).  Tiki Barber was their #1 player as he piled up close to 200 total yards and a touchdown against the Packers IN Green Bay.   The Chargers are fading quickly without Duce McAllister and have now lost 3 in a row.  However, their Receivers were a bright spot with both Derrick Mason & David Patten catching touchdowns and averaging 100 yards. The Assassins remain undefeated as they drop the Marauders.  It was a closer game than it should have been, but the New England Defense came up huge with a fumble return for a touchdown right at the end of the game that gave the Assassins 9 points (2 for the fumble, 6 for the touchdown and an extra PAT).  New England ended the day with 18 points thanks to 7 sacks, 2 takeaways and the touchdown.  The Marauders hopes of any success are fading fast as all receivers combined failed to get 100 yards (starters & bench).  The lone bright spot was Edgerin James who had 107 yards and the team's only touchdown. The Rynos remain undefeated and knock the Quiet Storm down to 0-4.  Tom Brady was masterful in a win over the Bills with close to 300 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers.  Jason Elam also had a good performance with 3 field-goals and a PAT.  Quiet Storm performed well in a week that not many teams did much spectacular, but an empty TE spot and the Miami Defense which shut down Pennington and Coles hurt them ,  DeShawn Foster came on strong again with over 100 combined yards and the team's only touchdown.

StiffArms 51

SmackDownSister 37

PhatBacks 48

Hitmen 39

JYDs 67

Hooligans 43

The StiffArms win and stay only one game back from the Rynos in the NFL.  They won despite two players (Corey Bradford & Dallas Clark) failing to catch a single pass. David Akers was the man for them on Sunday as he booted 4 field-goals and one PAT for 17 points on the day (one short of this year's record).  SDS was the lowest scoring team so far this year as a result of a lackluster performance by his WRs (who incidentally still beat out the Marauder Receivers).  Jeremy Shockey did score a touchdown (the first in a year) to lead the SDS in scoring. Just like every other team in the CFL, the PhatBacks won; and just like every team in the XFL, the Hitmen lost.  Good news for both teams as they don't lose any place in the standings.  The PhatBacks had a great performance from the Falcons Defense with 2 sacks, 3 take-aways and a defensive touchdown.  The Hitmen would have tied the lowest scoring team for the year if it were not for SDS.   Although LaDanian Tomlinson had a great day with over 150 total yards and a touchdown, the rest of the team did not show up, as their receivers caught only 63 yards of passing (worse than the Marauders!) The JYDs keep pace with the rest of their division with a win, and the Hooligans maintain their small lead in the tie for first in the XFL.  The JYD's one-week acquisition of Kerry Collins does not look like a good move right now as he threw three interceptions and fumbled twice (-2.25 fantasy points total), but Eric Moulds and the Steelers Defense both had double-digit days for him.  The Hooligans had great performances from Owens and their RB tandem of Curtis Martin and Jerome Bettis but the Titans defense that allowed San Diego to score 38 points (-3 fantasy points) and a kicker on a bye spoiled a good opportunity for them to take the lead in their division.
