Week 5 Match-ups

StiffArms (3-1) vs Hooligans (2-2)

***Matchup of the week***  The #2 team in the NFL meets the co-leader of the XFL as both teams look to pull ahead. At least one team will be able to move up since both of their prime rivals are facing each other as well. The StiffArms get Daunte Culpepper back after a bye, but have Portis playing against a tough Baltimore Defense. Fortunately it looks like Lee Suggs has emerged from his injury to get a lock on the starting job in Cleveland. The Hooligans gave up an opportunity to take sole possession of 1st place in their division last week with 2 empty roster spots, but will have a full lineup this week as everyone is back and Owens (bye) has been moved to the bench. It should be an interesting week as one of the NFL's prime fantasy players (Curtis Martin) plays against the losers in Buffalo.

Marauders (0-4) vs Ketchup Hotdog (2-2)

The Marauders are still looking for their first win against the League-leading point scorer Ketchup Hotdog. The Marauders stiff opponent schedule continues as Plummer faces the Carolina defense and Edgerrin James goes up against the stiff Oakland Defense, but Ahman Green could provide a spark as they go up against the surprisingly weak Tennessee Defense. Ketchup Hotdog will be without Rudi Johnson, but with Tiki Barber performing like a Stud Running Back, he probably won't be missed. KH will have some very tough match-ups as they have key players facing top defenses of Seattle, Miami, Dallas, Tennessee and Jacksonville.
Chargers (1-3) vs Phatbacks (2-2)
The Chargers revolving door at Running back continues as they start thier 4th different running back in as many weeks. Fortunately Chris Brown will face a weak defense this week (after facing a very tough Arizona defense last week) as they go into Green Bay. The PhatBacks need to keep winning to keep pace in their division, but will be without their star Tight End this week as Kansas City is on a bye. Quintin Griffen has been a disappointment so far (only 3.5 fantasy points in 2 weeks so far) and is up against a tough run defense this week as Carolina comes to town. On the bright side, they have a viable option to plug in at RB#2 as Emmitt Smith looks to be outplaying all the other backups they have on the roster.

Rynos (4-0) vs Hitmen (2-2)

Two division leading teams go head to head this week as the Rynos look to cement their lead in the NFL. They will look for Shaun Alexander to carry them to victory after his bye week, but will have a tougher match-up as New England's Tom Brady will be facing the Miami Defense. The Hitmen need to start putting up more points after a down week and may have a hard time as LT is going against the tough Jacksonville Defense, but Hasselbeck playing against the Rams should help out.

Assassins (4-0) vs Quiet Storm (0-4)

For the second straight week, the Assassins take on a winless team. This week they'll be without Chad Johnson, but have both Jamal Lewis running against Washington and Fred Taylor going against San Diego (who incidentally held Chris Brown to 55 yards last week). Quiet Storm had a rough week last week leaving a lot of points on the bench.  This week his stars are in the lineup and Kevan Barlow facing a much weaker defense, but Quiet Storm is still a long shot to win this week.

JYDs (2-1) vs SmackDownSister (1-3)

JYDs will be without their #1 RB Priest Holmes this week (bye) so will be starting the bruising Mike Allstott in his place. Their other stud (Marshall Faulk) will be up against the #3 ranked rush defense as well, so it will be a tough week. SDS will be without their starting QB and best RB this week and so far have not added a QB to replace him. They did get their star RB back (Davis) who will hopefully fumble less times than he gets into the end-zone for a change.

Week 5 Results (final results)

Hooligans 47

StiffArms 52

Ketchup Hotdog 97

Marauders 57

Chargers 67

PhatBacks 55

The Hooligans pull a win out on Monday night, and take sole possession of first place in the XFL.  They scored over 30 points on Monday night to squeek out a win, with major contributions from Bubba Franks who scored two touchdowns and the Titans Defense  that had six take-aways.  The StiffArms fall another game behind the Rynos in the NFL, and were relying on Daunte Cullpepper who came within 2 points of the all-time weekly record by a QB with almost 400 passing yards and 5 touchdowns without a single turnover, and also 30 rushing yards. Ketchup Hotdog continues their hot streak with another win, another week of being the top scoring team, and is now clear and away the top scoring fantasy team.  Unfortunately as every other CFL team won this past weekend, KH is still tied for last in their division.  For KH, Marc Bulger had a huge game with 325 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and a rushing touchdown, while Randy Moss and Tiki Barber each had over 15 fantasy points.  The Marauders had a better week than average, but still fell short with 3 positions contributing 3 points or less.  Edgerin James was their top player with over 150 total yards and a touchdown. The Chargers scored over 30 points on Monday night to pull ahead of the PhatBacks and notch their first win since the opening week.  They had a solid game by their Tennessee team of McNair, Mason & Brown.  The star was Chris Brown who had over 100 yards and two touchdowns.  The PhatBacks take sole possession of last place in the CFL despite a solid game by Plaxico Burress who had 136 receiving yards and  a touchdown and Peyton Manning who had almost 200 yards and threw three touchdowns.

Rynos 72

Hitmen 69

Assassins 63

Quiet Storm 56

SmackDownSister 52

JYDs 42

The Rynos win a close one over the Hitmen to remain undefeated after six weeks.  The Rynos top player was their Ravens defense who allowed only 10 points, had 3 sacks, two take-aways and scored a defensive touchdown, while Antonio Gates also had close to 100 yards and scored two touchdowns.  The Hitmen will have a tough decision on who to keep when Todd Heap comes back as their replacement TE Eric Johnson put up over 140 yards and a touchdown (2nd straight week over 100 yards receiving).

The Assassins keep their lead in the CFL with a win over the Quiet Storm.  Every member contributed a bit in the win, but the Patriots Defense was the position that scored the most with only 10 points allowed, 3 sacks and two takeaways.  The Quiet Storm made it a very close game mainly thanks to Andre Johsnon who had 170 yards receiving and scored two touchdowns, but Jason Whitten was their goat with 35 yards receiving and a fumble (net -0.25 points).

SmackDownSister finally gets a win and moves into a 3-way tie for first in the XFL by upsetting the JYDs who were previously 2nd highest scoring team.  SDS won on Monday night thanks to Ryan Longwell's 2 FGs and XP.  They managed a win despite Chris Simms (knocked out of the game due to injury) and the Jags Defense crumpling vs. the red-hot San Diego Chargers (combined net -0.64 points).  The JYD's had an off-week with Larry Fitzgerald's one touchdown and close to 100 yards as their leading scorer.
