Week 9 Match-ups

Chargers (4-4) vs. Hitmen (3-5)

***Matchup of the week***  This may be a pivotal game for both teams as they are both on the cusp of elimination.  The Chargers need to keep winning hoping that the Rynos will eventually lose, and the Hitmen need to keep pace with both the division leading Hooligans and their second-place partner SDS.  The Chargers will be continuing to start last week's hero Joey Harrington, but with Tennessee on a bye will have to start Amos Zeroue and David Patten at RB and WR.  The Hitmen look to have a good week as their Seattle Defense and Matt Hasslebeck plays against the lowly San Fran 49ers.

Marauders (2-6) vs. JYDs (5-3)

The Marauders had their best week of the year last week, but had a disappointing loss despite the solid output.  This week they will be without their star Running back Ahman Green (bye) so will have to rely on the up & down Michael Pittman to fill in.  The JYDs are only 2 games back of the Assassins, and also 3rd in the league in points scored, and look to beat the Marauders easily to close the gap.  But this might be a tough week with their key players Priest Holmes up against the Tampa Defense and Marshall Faulk against New England.
Rynos (8-0) vs. Phatbacks (3-5)
The Rynos are rolling and have tied their 2001 record for most consecutive wins.  This week they will try to set a new benchmark as they go up against the last team in the CFL.  For the Rynos, Shaun Alexander will be playing against one of the worst defenses in the NFL, and with the Baltimore Defense set to crush the Browns again, could be 9-0 by the end of the week.  The PhatBacks had their best week of the year last week, and can expect a repeat performance of Peyton Manning's 5 touchdowns as the Colts take on the Vikings on Monday night.

StiffArms (4-4) vs. Quiet Storm (0-8)

The StiffArms need a win soon to have a hope of beating the Rynos for the NFL title, and have an easy opponent this week as they take on the 0-8 Quiet Storm.  With Culpepper and Buerlson playing against the porous Colts Defense, they may be able to notch a win with only those two playing.  The Quiet Storm is starting to make a little noise with their best week of the year last week, but the someone of the WR combo of Laveranues Coles and Santana Moss will have to score a TD this year to give them a real opportunity to put up a win.

Assassins (7-1) vs. SmackDownSister (3-5)

The Assassins are looking at the playoffs either by winning their division, or booking the most points, but still have six games to go before they get there.  This week they get Jamal Lewis back from his suspension, but will be without their other RB Fred Taylor who sits for a bye.  SDS is tied with the Hitmen in a close race in the XFL, and has been putting up solid numbers for the past two weeks (averaging 75 points).  This week will be interesting as they have a number of marginal match-ups like McNabb against the solid Pittsburgh defense and  he Chicago Defense vs. the potent Giants offense.

Ketchup Hotdog (4-4) vs. Hooligans (5-3)

KH is only 3 games behind the division leading Assassins and is in what is currently a 3-way race for most points, although with 43% of the season still to go, that is still anyone's to claim.  KH will be without one of their star players as Javon Walker will be on a bye.  But with Tiki Barber against the Chicago Bears, they may be ok without him.  The Hooligans have a huge number of players on a bye including both starting QBs, their TE and their Defense, so will have to look to the waiver wire to get some fill-ins or their divisional race will probably get a lot tighter.

Week 9 Results (preliminary results)

Hitmen 79

Chargers 63

Marauders 74

JYDs 45

Rynos 95

PhatBacks 64

The Hitmen win a big game and come within one game of first place in the XFL.  The Hitmen won with solid performances across the board, but were lead by Matt Hasslebeck who threw for close to 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.   The Chargers had a solid day from Matt Stover who kicked four field goals, but with this loss are one loss away from being eliminated from the playoff race.  The Marauders get their third win in four games this week lead by bye-week fill-in Michael Pittman who had over 150 yards of offense and scored three touchdowns.  The loss knocks JYDs into a tie for 2nd in the CFL, as the free-agent acquisition New York Jets put up a pathetic performance against the Bills. Unfortunately for the Marauders, the win by the Rynos this week eliminates them from contention in the NFL. The Rynos set two records this week with their win.  First, they set the all-time record for consecutive wins beating the mark they set in 2001.  Second, they set the 2004 record for points by a Tight End as Antonio Gates scored three touchdowns and gets 56 yards.  The PhatBacks Manning had x yards on Monday night and threw x touchdowns, but they were just outmatched by the best fantasy team in the pool.

StiffArms 59

Quiet Storm 50

SmackDownSister 89

Assassins 77

Ketchup Hotdog 72

Hooligans 47

The StiffArms edged out the Quiet Storm on Monday night as Nate Buerlson scored two touchdowns while only touching the ball three times.  The Quiet Storm continue to set new depths for futility as they notch their ninth straight loss despite a breakout performance by Santana Moss who had over 150 yards and a touchdown. SmackDownSister keeps pace with the Hitmen and draws only one game away from the division leading Hooligans with a win over the AssassinsSDS had a great day from their two running backs who combined for over 200 yards and scored four touchdowns.  The Assassins have lost two in a row, and are being closely chased by both Ketchup Hotdog and the JYDs.  One notable performer was Adam Vinitiari who set an all-time record for kickers with 4 field-goals, 4 PATs and one passing touchdown. Ketchup Hotdog wins their second game and moves into a tie with the JYDs only 2 games behind the Assassins for the lead in the CFL as well as maintaining their lead over the JYDs for the wildcard spot.  KH's MVP Tiki Barber showed up big time against the Bears where he had over 125 total yards and scored both Giant Touchdowns.  The Hooligans had a disappointing week despite Bettis getting the start and piling up close to 150 yards, but he didn't score a touchdown, which is strange seeing as he was averaging a TD ever 16 yards before this weekend.
