Networks - Europe (TEN-34
& CEENet) and the former
USSR Introduction Academic networks is a linking together of higher educational institutes, universities and sometimes other educational establishments to permit access to information resources, research and communication. This web page review the form of academic networks in Europe and the form USSR countries mainly concentrate on the countries show on the left side of the hypertext link on the following area topology, technology and services. TEN-34 is a high speed pan-European interconnect facility between the national research networks. The TEN-34 Consortium consists of sixteen national (and one regional) European research networks with DANTE as coordinating partner. The TEN-34 network is to link to Scandinavian/Spanish 'Unisource' network. TEN-34 is supported by a mixture of high speed (34 Mbps) leased lines and ATM Virtual Paths which are used as leased lines. Secondly, TEN-34 works with the JAMES project, a collaboration of the European telecom operators who have established a experimental European ATM network, to trial ATM technology in a pan-European context. Russia - FREENet is one of the member of this web page. FREENet and UNICOR corporation represents Russia in the CEENet (Central and Eastern European Networking Association). The objective of CEENet is to co-ordinate international aspects primarily of academic and research networking in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. |
