    Brendan's '58 Chevy!

Brendans Update - 12/21/97 Got some updates for you. The subframe went on with minimal problems and turned out great. The PST rebuild was pretty easy with a little help from my little buddy 3 lb. sledge (always comes in handy). It sits nice on the 15x8 chrome ralleys wrapped in 245/50 R15 BFG's (about 10 inches, perfect). I've began the body work with the bed. Completely disassembled it and I'm cleaning it piece by piece. The 9-inch cleaned up nice and is awaiting mounting and narrowing. At the last Goodguys show I picked up a 3,70 posi third member, great deal.I'm about ready to drop in the 350/T-700 (based on the 700-R4) combo. Still taking my time and working pay-check to pay-check. It's the only way.

Here's a run-down on my '58. I got it stock about six months ago. I haven't had the money to tear into it as much as I want to but you gotta start somewhere right. First of all maxing out at 55 downhill wasn't my idea of fun so I started plans for the Drive-train. I mated an Edelbrock 750 carb and Performer RPM manifold to a 350 bored .060 over for the powerplant. I'm planning on picking up a T-700 from Premier Performance which looks like a pretty nice setup(it's based on the 700-R4). I'm going to sub-frame it with an early Camaro. I've seen a kit to rebuild it from PST. The rear will probably come from the same car. I'd like to bolt on a rear-end mounting kit from Fat Fendered Street Rod Shop to bring it up to date. I've also been looking at a powerbooster brake assembly from FFSRS. The sheet metal is pretty good with a couple of "previous owner bondo globs." I'm planning on having the panels sand-blasted so I don't have to spend hours on end sanding out the bondo spots. I am highly interested in a fully molded tilt front end. I like John Godden's setup pictured in the May issue of "Classic Trucks." So far I have not been able to find any information on these setups. If you or any of your viewers know of this information, I would love to hear from you. I am a full-time student so I expect to begin the modifications over summer. I'll try and keep you posted on my progress. Thanks again and keep the write ups coming.
