Wellington's 50th Anniversary Trolley Bus Festival
"The Wellington Buses"
Wellington's Omnibus Society, who were the main organisers of the festival, provided four Wellington
trolleys. 39 (The Silver Ghost), a 1955 BUT RETB1 with Commonwealth Engineering bodywork, 88, a
1964 BUT RETB1 with MCCW bodywork, similar to 80 but with wider doors. This vehicle was rebuilt
by the WCCT in 1981.
90 is a sister vehicle to 88 but in original colour scheme. 119 is a BUT RETB1
with NZMB bodywork. It was the last of this series of vehicles before the current Volvo B58 buses with

Also appearing in a supporting role were a couple of former trolleys - "Ansaldos" (now diesel powered) that were
used for the tours of closed and proposed routes.
This line up could be from the seventies - from left 322, a 1957 AEC Reliance, 88, 80, and 90.
