The Flags of Racing
What the flags mean
Indicates the start of the event or a restart after a caution period.
Indicates that a faster car is overtaking the car being signaled and the car being signaled should be prepared to give consideration to the overtaking traffic.
Indicates an unsafe condition on the race track. Drivers are required to slow down and maintain their position. Cars may not pass under the yellow flag.
Indicates unsafe surface condition.
Indicates the car being signaled must go immediately to the pit area for consultation. The scoring of any car that ignores the black flag will be discontinued.
Indicates the complete stoppage of the race due to some unsafe condition.
Indicates to the drivers that they have started their last lap.
Indicates the completion of the race.
GREEN: Start
BLUE/YELLOW STRIPE: Move over
YELLOW: Caution, slow and hold position
YELLOW/TWO VERTICAL RED SLASHES: Oil on track
BLACK: Pull into pits for consultation
RED: Stop
WHITE: Entering last lap
CHECKERED: The race is finished
