A Tip When Checking the Float Level

Atwell Haines Submitted:

When checking the float level on a Zenith-Stromberg carb, wiggle the float pivot pin to ensure it is tight (not worn). The pin should be held stationary by the spring clip, and the float should pivot on the pin.

If the pin sticks to the float arm and the pivot pin rotates in the spring clip, the locating slot will wear down and result in erratic float needle valve operation. Also your float level will be wrong, as the dimension will be different when inverted vs. right-side-up.
