OK, I admit it! I am a sucker for a car show - any car show! I
always get lots of great ideas for Project '57. So, when the World
of Wheels came to town (Feb '99 - Chantilly, Virginia), I had to go. It
was a good show and the bowtie brigade was all present and accounted for
--- along with some incredible pre & post war iron and mid 50's &
60's hot rods. I even got the chance to drool over some extra fine
Harley's...!!
The World of Wheels is a professional show and so most all of the rides are
trailer Queens. You know the drill! The cars are trailered from
one show to the next. They drive the trailer into the show position
in the convention center, open it up and push out the queens. With
all that time and money invested in the powerplants, chrome headers and
undercarriage, what do you expect?
Confession time, I had a few Kodak moments with a
green show Queen '57 that was set
up at center stage.... but I have decided to leave the
green Queen off the web.... What
can I say? The bright lights, the neon, I got caught up in the moment!
But hey, sometimes ya gotta take a stand...why build it if you can't
drive it? I mean, what is the sense in building an "all show" but "no
go" rod? I guess its an artistic thing, maybe....
OK, I'm off my soapbox...
.... Anyway, this red Pro-Street '56 Chevy caught my eye....
...and rightly so...!! It has a deep, wet looking & flawless
red paint job complete with hot yellow flames, highly polished stainless,
expensive billet wheels & a textbook hotrod stance --- so low it
is in the weeds with wide meats outback.
The interior of the '56 was also a sight to behold. High-back buckets,
tan tweed and leather threads, matching tan leather half wrap billet steering
wheel, floor shifter for the auto tranny, monster racing tach and chrome
trim items....SWEET!
Note, the matching tan colored seatbelts with chrome buckles (hey, its
the details, stupid!) and custom arm rests on the door panels.
....plus, this pro-streeter belongs to a local Marylander!
Bitchin....
Who says all the cool hotrods are in SOCAL?
Even though I am hard on the show Queens, the World of Wheels show gave me a lot of good ideas for Project '57. Well, that's enough for this latest update (4/4/99).... thanks for checking out
the latest on Project '57....!!
