Check anchors and securing, lifeboats and lashing, water tight doors,
general cargo stowage and securing, especially lashing of deck cargoes. |

Close up ventilators, removing cowls (gooseneck) where appropriate. |

Check stability, reduce free surface effects. |

Note preparations in log book. |

Contact shore station, passing position and obtain constant plotting of
storm track. |

Secure derricks, cranes, hatch covers. |

Clear surplus gear from deck. |
 |
Close down deadlights (porthole covers). |
 |
Slacken off signal halyards and other relevant cordage. |

Drain swimming pools. |
 |
Reduce manpower on deck by operating heavy weather work routine. |
 |
Take down awnings. |
 |
Secure bridge for excessive rolling and pitching. |
 |
Warn engine room in plenty of time to reduce revolutions. |
 |
Check distress rockets and LSA gear. |
 |
Organize meal relief's before bad weather arrives. |
