The Past, we will be better
able to continue a cultural

and effective communication'. |

Graphic Design
[GD] is Interdisciplinary and
multitasking profession
with many sub categories
serving efficiently our information
age where Graphic
Designers implement new ideas
and solution of complex issues,
supply creative ideas in communication,
information, entertainment, advertising,
promotion and educational services. |
Graphic Design style is influenced
by: art, culture, nature, trends,
history and is driven by new media
technology as well as industry
and consumer needs. |
While researching GD from various
angles, the definitions of Commercial
art, Advertising art, Graphic
arts, Visual Art, Applied Art,
Computer Art emerged, and on this
bases, I had decided to investigate
further and make comparisons between
art, crafts, history, technology
and graphic design to outline
the differences and similarities
in their definitions,
techniques, purposes and processes
used. |
To be able to make changes and
make the GD recognized, understood
and appreciated for its complex
structure, from its beginning
of creation (the
brief) up to the final stage
of presentation, one needs to
understand GD creative development
processes. |
In 2001 I found that there were
not enough examples of artworks
or information about GD displayed
in museums and galleries and that
is why I had decided to publish
my thoughts on this subject. |
Printing techniques, processes,
new materials and new media technology
allowed other new professions
to prosper with displays of their
works in galleries and museum
as independent discipline in their
own field like: typography, digital
art and computer art but GD was
not mentioned or rather the GD
works are not exhibit as 'graphic
design artworks' within exhibitions
in museums or galleries. Why? |

Quote |
'....He
who can spot within them
self's a God spark, which
is artistic vocation; as
a poet, writer, painter,
sculptor, architect, musician,
composer, actor...at the
same time one discovers
certain duty - which indicates
that it is not possible
to waste this talent, but
it is necessary to develop
it, so it can serve the
whole mankind...' |

'Perhaps
it is the interdisciplinary
quality of graphic design
that makes it so difficult
to explain. On one hand,
we manage variety of images
- typography, maps and charts,
photographs, illustration
- each with its own complex
histories, technologies,
and cultures.' |

FROM
ART
- WE GET
INSPIRATION - FROM CRAFTS
WE LEARN
ON HOW TO USE DIFFERENT MEDIA
- IN HISTORY
WE LOOK FOR
ICONS OF SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPORTANCE
- FROM GRAPHIC
DESIGN WE
LEARN OF 'HOW
AND WHAT ? THIS WAY AND NOT
THAT WAY? - AND - FROM TECHNOLOGY
WE EXPECT
NEW PRODUCTS TO SIMPLIFY AND HELP
OUR EVERY DAY LIFE. |
