Kerrang awards 2001 Best album
Marilyn Manson 'Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death)'
Presented by Rob Halford
Fittinly introduced as a "Metal god", Rob Halford took the stage to a standing ovation and accepted the plaudits by saying, "it all began with Black Sabbath, Judas Prist and Iron Maiden". Halford then introduced Manson as his "controversial mate" and the lanky god of fuck lived up to his billing by saying, "there's nothing like a good school shooting to inspire an album". More bizarrely, Manson then proceeded to sing the praises of "tits" noting, "they're the reason we all start rock bands". "You might be a ladies' man like myself or a guy who like Rob," the singer noted slyly, "but tits are the reason we all do this." Halford was understandably speechless.
What do you think about winning the award?
"Fuck, fuck, fuck. Very glad, very appreciative. These awards mean more as they're created by the fans.
What was going through your mind as you were going on stage?
"How to hug Rob (Halford) without getting stabbed by his spikes."
What are your plans for the rest of the evening?
"Drunkenness. And more drunkenness."
Any messages for the Kerrang! readers?
"Thanks, and we hope you love the next record as much."
