A bitter young man, Bob Jolley, comes to Virginia City and begins to taunt Judge Harry Whitaker, a dear friend of the Cartwright's, claiming that he unjustly hung Bob's father. The man gets Adam's attention and then strangely other people involved in the case surface, and Adam takes up Bob Jolley's cause.

Journey Remembered

Ben looks back at his travels west with five years old Adam and Hoss' mother Inger. In flashbacks we see his journey to Ash Hollow where Hoss is born en route. They arrive in Ash Hollow only to be attacked by an Indians revenging the death of one of their braves. The will not leave without the man they hold responsible, Kirkwood, the same man who brought them to Ash Hollow.

Gabrielle

Joe and Hoss come upon an accident and find a couple dead, but there is a survivor, the couple's eleven year old daughter who is blind. The boys bring her to the Ponderosa and the Cartwright's find out the family was on their way to see her grandfather Zechariah Wickham, an old recluse wholives in the mountains. He was wrongly imprisoned for twenty years and when he was released he took refuge far away from civilization. Joe and Hoss take Gabrielle to see him but he runs them off. Ben decides it's best to find Gabrielle a new home, but Gabrielle has other ideas.

What Ellie does not know is that Tom has belonged to a gang of outlaws for a long time. She discovers the truth when the outlaws come to her home with her husband and demand she help take care of one of their wounded members, while they hold Joe and her young son hostage.

Ben's new enterprise is a paddle wheel steamboat, which delivers freight on Lake Tahoe. Ben is introduced to Jamison Fillmore who claims he is a lumberman from San Francisco. Ben is not aware that Jamison Fillmore and his gang plan to use the boat to escape with a one million-dollar currency shipment. To trap the thieves Candy convinces Fillmore he should be part of the plan to steal the currency.
