In Nepal, much of the farmable land is not flat. Nepal is covered with hills and mountains. So instead of having all their crops, water, and dirt roll down the hill, they carve flat fields into the hills. These separate fields then can hold the water needed to grow rice.

These terraces are all over the country because there are so many hills and there are so many people who want to grow food. However, in the high mountains nothing grows. Much of Nepal's northern part is covered by the Himalayas. These are covered by rocks, glaciers, and snow and are some of the tallest mountains in the world. There are also jungles and forests in Nepal.
