The purpose of lecture notes is to outline what the instructor intends to teach and give the student any reading assignments and pre lab exercises to do in preparation for lab.  Student should assume that the material covered and assignments given in lecture notes should help to prepare the student for the lab assignment. 

 

 

Lecture 10

We will start chapter 5 "Pointers and Strings" and cover up to section 5.7. 

 

 

Objectives

To be able to understand what a pointer is.

 To be able to use pointers.

 To be able to use pointers to pass arguments to functions by call-by-reference.

 To be able to use reference operator to pass arguments to functions by call-by-reference.

 To understand pointer expressions, arithmetic and operations. 

 To understand the use of constant and non-constant pointers to constant and non-constant data.

 To understand the use of sizof operator.

Assignments for next week

Read chapter 5 "Pointers and Strings", up to section 5.12
