CP 107 Lecture 2

The purpose of lecture notes is to outline what the instructor intends to teach and give the student any reading assignments and pre lab exercises to do in preparation for lab.  Student should assume that the material covered and assignments given in lecture notes should help to prepare the student for the lab assignment.

 

 Lecture 2

Introduction to C++ data types, variable and constants. Start chapter 2 (control structures).

 

Objectives

To understand C++ language's basic built in data types
To understand constants and variables
To understand what is an ASCII character set
To understand what is a Numbering system
To understand the difference between displayable characters and control characters
Conversion between different numbering systems
To understand problem solving techniques
To be able to develop algorithms through the process of top-down, stepwise refinement
To be able to use the if, if/else selection structures in decision making
To understand C++ operators - Arithmetic, Relational, Logical and other
To understand operator precedence
