"Wise Girls" is Mariah Carey's latest movie project. The independent movie, which also stars Academy Award winning actress Mira Sorvino and Melora Walters of "Magnolia", is about Meg (Sorvino), a med school graduate who after her fiancé's death takes a job as a waitresses at an apparantly mob-owned restaurant. She befriends two other waitresses, Raychel (Carey) and Kate (Walters), but they all end up getting involved in their bosses' unlawful business. The movie is directed by David Anspaugh, written by newcomer John Meadows and budgeted at about $10 million. Mariah plays Raychel, a loudmouth waitress from Staten Island. "Wise Girls" had an industry screening at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival on January 13 and was very well received by both critics and audience. The film is currently scheduled for showing on HBO in the summer and for video release in early 2003.
