Technology Facilitation Standard II. (TF-II)
Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences.

Educational technology facilitators plan, design, and model effective learning environments and multiple experiences supported by technology. Educational technology facilitators:

TF-II.A. Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners. Candidates:

  1. Provide resources and feedback to teachers as they create developmentally appropriate curriculum units that use technology.
  2. Consult with teachers as they design methods and strategies for teaching computer/technology concepts and skills within the context of classroom learning.
  3. Assist teachers as they use technology resources and strategies to support the diverse needs of learners including adaptive and assistive technologies.

TF-II.B. Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences. Candidates:

  1. Assist teachers as they apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.

TF-II.C. Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability. Candidates:

  1. Assist teachers as they identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability based on district and state standards.
  2. Model technology integration using resources that reflect content standards.

TF-II.D. Plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities. Candidates:

  1. Provide teachers with options for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.

TF-II.E. Plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment. Candidates:

  1. Provide teachers with a variety of strategies to use to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment and support them as they implement the strategies.

TF-II.F. Identify and apply instructional design principles associated with the development of technology resources. Candidates:

  1. Assist teachers as they identify and apply instructional design principles associated with the development of technology resources.
TF II REFLECTION:

As technology changes on a daily basis, educational technology facilitators must diligently and consistently work to stay abreast of not only the current trends, but also the barriers that exist in the integration of technology into the educational setting.
In meeting these challenges, facilitators are expected to design and manage the physical learning environment in order to facilitate the implementation of instructional technology in teaching and learning. Facilitators must know how to assess, select, and use a variety of hardware types to support instruction such as computers systems, CD ROMs, scanners, projection devices, cameras, wireless PDAs, distance education systems, audio/video recorders and players, and DVDs as well as various types of tool-based and content-based software to support learning.  With today’s students, the relevance of content to every day life often plays an integral role in their connection to the instructional and learning processes.  In order for students to grasp technology concepts, facilitators must be able to correlate the use of technology in learning environments to the application of technology in society.

In an effort to bring instructional strategies to life, facilitators may employ effective uses of broadcast instruction, audio/video conferencing, web-based instruction, and other emerging learning applications.  It is imperative that, educational technology professionals step outside of the box and develop customized learning materials using word processing, databases, spreadsheets, hypermedia, web authoring, videos, graphics, desktop publishing, and other applications.
However, before the aforementioned can occur, facilitators must understand and apply the characteristics of leaners and the nature of the larning task to the slection and use of technology-based instructional strategies and presentation techniques.  Technology must be integrated into every aspect and content area of education through the implementation of various instructional strategies that support interdisciplinary approaches, adjusting instruction to accomodate individual characteristics (i.e, multiple intelligences and learning styles), enhancing human interaction, and diverse diagnostic and achievement assessments.
