All levels of education must include students with disabilities.  AbilityHub is a website that can assist educators with finding information on adaptive equipment and alternative methods available for accessing computers.

AbiltyHub.com was created and is maintained by Mr. Dan J. Gilman in association with TGGWEB.  Mr. Gilman has lived with a disability since 1972 when he fractured his neck in a swimming accident, resulting in paralysis from a C4-5 spinal cord injury and has been in the Assistive Technology field since 1992.

New Jersey Department of Education

The New Jersey Department of Education provides professional development opportunities that specifically address its CCCS 8.1 and 8.2.  The professional development opportunities have been available at various locations throughout the state and some of the recent workshops have dealt with interdisciplinary studies, how to integrate of technology into the core subject areas and have provided administrators opportunities to stay in the technology loop.

American Association of School Librarians (AASL)

AASL is a professional membership organization, serving the needs of 10,000 school library media specialists in the United States, Canada and around the world. Kathy Schrock’s Guide for Educators

This site is a comprehensive subject guide for virtually all K-12 curricula. Kathy has scoured the Internet to find lesson plans, original sources, on-line collaborative projects, and other Internet-based resources. Further, this site has a number of links to search engines and other Internet tools. Finally, Kathy has authored several presentations which are designed to show teachers how to use the Internet as a tool for teaching and learning. These presentations are available on her site. In short, Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators is an excellent "first stop" for any teacher use of the Internet.

Sun Associates: Basic Tools for Educators

The website is an excellent resource for experienced and novice educators.  The first section of the website begins with an article that discusses the value of education.  The sections that follow explain some of the programs that are normally readily available on computers in schools.  There are five sections; four provide address specific types of programs with at least two examples of software titles, explanations of the key benefits of the software as well as examples of their uses while the fifth section is dedicated the Internet, its key benefits and examples of uses.

TeacherWeb is an economical, fun and easy site that allows teachers to create their own website.  It allows teachers to post assignments, announcements and other educational material for students and parents in the same manner in which a classroom bulletin board would be used.

Freedict.com is a dictionary of 16 international languages that translates individual words from English to the language of choice and vice versa.  This is an excellent resource for educators, because it allows an educator who may not know a particular language to translate key words of an assignment into a learner’s native language.  It serves as an interdisciplinary and technology tool for students with limited English proficiency to use while learning the English language.

Babel Fish

Babel Fish is a website that translates blocks of text up to 150 words or an entire webpage.  Users can indicate specific words that they do not want translated and can select from 36 different from and to language combinations.  A resource that any teacher can use in order to bridge the technology and language gaps that exist for students with limited English proficiency.

Bobby WorldWide is a desktop tool that tests website accessibility.  It helps identify changes to pages so users with disabilities can more easily use Web pages.  Bobby is offered as a public service by CAST and encourages compliance with accessibility guidelines such as Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act.  It is produced and distributed by Watchfire.

Brainchild provides standards-based assessment and instruction which can be customized based on a particular state’s needs.  It provides web-based multimedia instruction, offers online assessments, the software can be modified according to classroom needs, and a PS-10 handheld tutor can be purchased.  Additionally, Brianchild offers EOG Achiever! software which is based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) and focuses on the performance objectives tested on the NJASK test.
