Mythology

Blue Seed involves with numerous amount of mythological elements. The thing that makes this series so amazingly interesting is due to the fact of the involvement of different Japanese Myths. Through this small section of my site, I'll try my hardest to explain the details behind the series Blue Seed. The Legend of Kushinada and Susano-oh

Long, long ago, there lived an old couple named Ashinadzuchi and Tenadzuchi and their eight daughters in the river of Hi in Izumo. The eight daughters are know as the Kushinada princesses, whom however, is sacrificed and devoured to a giant serpent each year. This serpent, named Yamato-no-Orochi, has one body, eight heads, eight tails, surrounds eight mountains and rivers, and eyes as red as ground cherries. It has been several years, and each year the Orochi traditionally takes one of the Kushinada princesses and eats them. Until one year, when there's only one of the daughters left, the Orochi came again at the same day to take the last Kushinada. Fortunately, a young man named Susano-oh volunteered himself to the old couples to protect their last daughter from the eight-headed demon in return for her marraige.
