Chapter One

"I've seen the crystal ball and I got a lot to mend. I drank a thousand nights, I had a million friends..."

Nick turned down the well lit street with a big sigh of relief. Finally they had a day off after months of vigorous promotion of their new album. They'd had a grueling schedule, and he was glad for the down time. Nick smiled as he turned into the parking lot and jumped out of the truck with ease. Tonight was his night to go out and have some fun. He walked up to the bouncer, showed his ID and entered the club. The pulsing beat of the music flowed through him and he grinned as he watched all the bodies swaying erotically to the beat. He was anxious to get out there and become a part of it. He walked over to the bar and sat down.

"What'll it be?" the bartender asked.

"Screwdriver." Nick replied with a grin.

The bartender prepared the drink and placed it down in front of Nick. He sipped at it as he surveyed his surroundings. He liked to drink; he liked to keep that a secret though, if the press found out about it...

Nick groaned and continued looking for his next "conquest". So he liked to have a little fun with a few women, that didn't make him a bad person. He just had to be careful for the young ones. He'd almost gotten in trouble one time when the young woman he'd brought back to his hotel room turned out to be a young fifteen year old. Nick cringed at the thought, but just chalked it up to experience. He'd gotten a little cocky over the years true, but he knew that a lot of girls, and women for that matter, found him extremely attractive. He was modest about it, but figured if you've got it then may as well use it. He got up and walked into the crowd. He wasn't one for dancing too much, but just a little movement can do such wonderful things. He moved slowly behind one girl and grinded into her a little before moving away and winking at her. She smiled and turned back to her partner. Nick looked over at a girl who was eyeing him and he slowly moved towards her.

"Hi." He whispered into her ear.

"Hey baby." The girl purred.

"What's your name?"

"Whatever you want it to be baby."

Nick raised his eyebrows, she was one of those kinds of girls. They'd be all over him, letting him think he was in the lead until they got back to the room and then they wanted to take over. He grinned, not his type, he had to be in control. She moved closer to him and slid her hands up his arms. Nick backed up and smiled at her.

"Sorry, honey" he winked and walked off.

It was too bad he had to be so picky. He made his way around the rest of the dance floor with little success. Nick walked back over to the bar and ordered another drink and sighed. Usually it didn't take long for him to zero in on one girl. Maybe he was loosing his touch. He shook his head and was getting ready to leave when he caught a glimpse of her. She was sitting at a table, drink to her lips, her head bobbing slightly to the song that was playing. Nick casually slid off the his stool, 'Now that's what I'm talking about.' He grinned and made his way over to her table.
