Chapter Fourteen

They walked back into the hotel laughing. Surprisingly, Alecia had enjoyed herself so far. Nick was actually pretty funny. They walked into the lobby when Nick stopped and looked at her.

"Why don't we get a drink before we head up to our rooms."

"I don't know, I really should be getting to bed."

"Come on, one drink. . . please?" Nick whimpered, giving her his best puppy dog look.

"Oh don't look at me that way. Alright, alright."

"Great, come on."

They headed over to the bar and sat.

"What can I get you?" The bartender asked.

Nick looked at Alecia.

"Club soda with lime please."

"I'll have a wine cooler."

The bartender set a bottle in front of Nick and a glass in front of Alecia and stuck a slice of lime on the rim before moving away.

"You don't drink?"

"No, not really. Every once and a while I'll indulge, not often though."

"Oh. . . " Nick looked down at his drink blandly and set it aside.

Alecia sipped at her drink and looked over at Nick who was watching her. "You're not gonna drink?"

"Nah, not in the mood anymore."

"Did I say something wrong?"

"No, not at all. Don't worry about it."

Alecia looked at him over the glass and tilted her head. "You know, I can't quite figure you out sometimes. I mean at one point you can be the biggest ass there is." Alecia started. Nick rolled his eyes and shook his head. "But then the next you can be the most insecure, vulnerable guy I've ever met."

"What?"

"I can tell. You were all set to drink that, and when I said I don't drink, you just sorta felt all bad about it. Don't let other people influence you, do your own thing Nick. You don't have to prove anything to anyone. I found that out, too late I'm afraid."

"What happened?"

Alecia shook her head, it was too late and she didn't feel like drudging up the past and opening old wounds. "Let's just say that I tried to prove myself and win what I wanted, but I failed." Alecia looked over at him and sighed. "Just be you ok."

Nick looked at her sad expression and shook his head sadly. She smiled weakly and stood up. "Ok I'm gonna head up to my room. . . damnit!" She tugged at her dress and noticed her shoes were coming loose.

"What's wrong?"

"Could you do me a favor please?"

"What?"

"Could you stand behind me while I just kneel down and fix my shoes please? I don't want the whole bar to see me."

Nick grinned. "Sure thing!" and moved around until he stood in back of her. Alecia knelt down and almost tipped over if Nick hadn't straightened her out. "Ok, kneeling isn't gonna happen, I'm going to have to bend over. . . shit!" She stood up and slowly bent over.

A slow smile spread across Nick's face as he took in her round bottom and he bit his lip to keep from smacking it.

"Stop it!"

"What?"

"Stop looking at my ass, you damn perv!"

"I'm not!" Nick laughed.

Alecia finished and looked up at him, her hands on her hips. "You were so!" She smacked his arm.

"Ouch!" Nick replied still laughing and threw a few dollars on the bar table. Alecia smiled as they made their way into the elevator.

They walked over to her room, and she pulled her key card out of her purse and turned to look at him. "Well as much as I hate to admit it, I had a good time tonight."

"I knew you would. I'm entertaining!"

"Uh-huh, I'm sure you can be. Anyway, do you now accept my thanks?"

"Hmmm. . . yeah I do."

"Good, thanks for a great evening. Maybe I'll see you around sometime."

"Oh, you will."

"Goodnight Nick."

She turned to open her door when Nick reached out and took her hand. He looked at her for a moment before bringing her hand up to his lips and kissing it gently. "Goodnight Alecia." He whispered and turned and walked down to his room.
