Chapter Twenty One
Stupid, stupid, stupid. How could he be so stupid? He'd told her that he didn't care, one of the biggest lies. How could he have been so cruel. Nick buried his face in his hands just as there was a pounding on his door.
"Nick! Open this damn door! Now!" AJ yelled.
Nick sighed and got up and opened the door.
"What in the hell are you doing??? I told you not to hurt her! What'd you say? What happened?"
"Please AJ, not now."
"Yes....right now." AJ snapped.
"I screwed some girl last night and she caught me ok! That's it, she spazzed so I told her that I...I didn't care what she thought of me. It's true I don't."
"Wait something doesn't make sense. She already knew what kind of guy you are. How come this time bothered her so much?"
Nick paused a moment before explaining. "She made me promise that I wouldn't sleep with anymore women, that I wouldn't use them. I told her I wouldn't...I promised." He whispered.
AJ stared at him, "Nick..."
"Don't say it ok! I know already! Damn you don't think this bothers me? Ok so I lied, I do care what she thinks of me, so much so it scares me. She wouldn't let me explain, I tried to explain. I didn't mean for it to happen, she came on to me. I shouldn't have...I mean..."
"So she came on to you! Girls always come on to you! You could've stopped yourself! Damn Nick I..."
"No! Alecia came on to me."
"What?"
"She was drunk and I...I couldn't do that to her. I wouldn't. So I helped her to bed and I left. That's when Stephanie came."
"You mean to tell me, you could've slept with Alecia, but...you didn't?"
"Yeah."
"Whoa!" AJ whispered.
"Look AJ, I just wanna be alone...please man."
"Alright, I'll talk to you later." AJ turned and walked out the door.
Nick watched him leave and buried his face back in his hands, trying to stop the aching in his heart.
She opened the door to find three pairs of eyes staring at her. She walked back over to the bed as they all came in and looked at her.
"CeCe, honey I'm sorry." Kris said sadly.
"Yeah, I didn't know he could be such an jerk!." Michelle agreed.
"His sorry ass is going down! Come on Kris!" April fumed.
Alecia chuckled, "It's ok guys, I'm fine. No one's ass is going anywhere."
They all sat down next to her on the bed.
"Wow I can't believe you caught them...that's gross!" Kris shuddered.
"I didn't catch them. I mean they weren't...doing anything, Nick was in his robe and she called him from the bed and....and..."
"I can't stand this! Kris come on girl, he's going down!" April spat standing up, Kris joining her.
"Will you two calm down please!" Michelle ordered.
"I can't! Ok I'm going to get something to drink, I can't just sit here. Maybe I'll run into him and I can beat him to a bloody pulp!" April grinned, rubbing her hands together.
"I wanna help!" Kris agreed as they walked out the door.
Michelle sighed and turned to Alecia. "How are you honey?"
"I'm ok. Just...tired I guess."
"This is me you're talking to remember. Tell me the truth. Tell me what happened last night."
Alecia sighed. "Well, we all went to this club last night. I really didn't dance much, you know I don't like to. Well, there was this one girl that kept looking at Nick, and he finally danced with her. I was...well I was drinking, a lot. More than usual. So by the time Nick had finished dancing with her, I was pretty wasted I guess. So Nick took me back to the room. I...I mean I..."
"What Alecia? You what?"
"I...came on to him. I had him help me undress and I basically threw myself at him. It was beyond embarrassing."
"Did he do anything?"
"He helped me undress, and put me to bed and...left."
"That's it?"
"Yeah. Then this morning I went to apologize and that's when it happened."
"I'm so sorry, honey."
"It's ok...I don't know why it's hurting me so much. I know how he is, and I was stupid to think that he'd keep his word."
"Well you were getting close to him, so it's understandable."
"You know this whole time there's this one thought that kept running through my head. I don't know why and it's crazy to feel this."
"Feel what?"
"Like I wasn't...good enough for him. I mean before I know that's all he wanted. When he turned me down and went with that other girl I felt...well I felt inferior." She whispered.
"Why would you want to be one of those one night stands you detest so much?"
"I don't, I just...I don't know. I mean he could've. I was drunk senseless, but he didn't. Michelle, what's wrong with me?" Alecia looked at her sadly and bit her lip to stop the sobs from escaping.
Michelle wrapped an arm around her. "Nothing honey, nothing at all. If he can't see how great you are then that's his fault. But I don't think that's the case."
"Wha-what do you mean?"
"Well think about it, he could've taken advantage of you but he didn't. That's gotta stand for something."
The phone rang and Michelle reached over to pick it up.
"Hello?...no this is Michelle...Hi Howie....yeah....yeah....you did huh...oh...ummm hmm...she's right here....ok....yeah....ok let me ask her....CeCe, Howie and the guys want to know if you want to go out to dinner with them...Nick won't be there. They really want you to go."
"I don't....I don't know."
"Please Alecia, it'll cheer you up and get you out of here. You won't run the risk of running into Nick if you're here."
"Oh...Ok. I'll go."
"Great! Ok Howie she said she'll go. Now what time do you want her to meet you there?...sure we'd love to!...ok...uh huh...right! Ok see you then! Ok, we'll come with you ok?"
"Yeah, thanks."
"Ok, I'm gonna go find Kris and April and make sure they haven't started some kinda riot and leave. Well be back at around six thirty cause they wanna meet in the lobby at seven."
"Ok I'll see you then." She turned to look out the window.
"Look Nick we're going out. We'll be back a little later. Stay out of trouble." Kevin said coldly.
Nick nodded and they all looked at him suspiciously. "I'm fine guys! Go!"
They turned and walked out of his room. Nick sighed and looked out the window. His life officially sucked. The guys all hated him and he wasn't too happy with himself either. He sighed and slumped back on the bed.
"Thanks so much for dinner guys. I really enjoyed it."
"No problem. We're glad you enjoyed yourself." Kevin smiled.
"How about we just sit and talk here for a while." Howie offered. They all agreed and sat on the couches and started talking.
Nick left the elevator started towards the lobby, the tv was starting to irritate him and he'd heard there was an arcade around here. He started across when he saw the guys sitting on the couch and started over to them when he saw Alecia. His eyes widened and he turned and ran back the way he came, crouching down low. He couldn't say anything to her. He watched her laugh with the guys. He could hear them saying her name, he heard her name all the time. In his thoughts, in his dreams.
I hear your name whispered on the wind, It's a sound that makes me cry, I hear a song blow again and again, Through my mind and I don't know why
He watched her, her laugh was addicting. These feelings he was having about her were getting stronger. Feelings he shouldn't be feeling. Everyone loved her, the guys thought she was great, and her friends, well they were loyal as friends should be. What did he have to do to make her his? Would he ever have her heart?
I wish I didn't feel so strong about you, Like happiness and love revolve around you, Trying to catch your heart, Is like trying to catch a star, So many people love you baby, That must be what you are
If he could just pinpoint the time when he'd wanted more from her. When he'd fallen so hard for someone who was so obviously out of his league. He'd go on waiting forever before he'd ever get to her, get to her heart.
Waiting for a star to fall, And carry you heart into my arms, That's where you belong, in my arms baby...yeah. Waiting for a star to fall, And carry you heart into my arms, That's where you belong, in my arms baby...yeah.
So much had happened between them. Most of the time he didn't know where she was coming from or what she was thinking. He tried to understand what she was feeling but she just wouldn't tell him.
I've learned to feel what I cannot see, But with you I lose that vision, I don't know how to dream your dreams, So I'm all caught up in the superstition
Maybe he should go and try to talk to her, pull her into his arms and never let go. Make her understand how he felt about her. That's all he wanted, her to know how he felt.
I want to reach out and pull you to me, Who says I should let a wild one go free, Trying to catch your heart, Is like trying to catch a star, But I can't love you this much baby And love you from this far
He stood and watched them. No, it wouldn't work. She'd just ignore him. He was wrong and he knew he was wrong. She had every right to be upset at him. He had to make it up to her...somehow.
Waiting for a star to fall, And carry you heart into my arms, That's where you belong, in my arms baby...yeah. Waiting for a star to fall, And carry you heart into my arms, That's where you belong, in my arms baby...yeah.
Nick stood, he'd wait. He'd wait like he had been waiting, for just the right time. He didn't like having to wait, but he would. For her he'd do anything. With one final glance back at her, he turned and left.
Waiting, (However long), I don't like waiting...(I'll wait for you), It's so hard waiting... (Don't be too long), Seems like waiting, makes me love you, even more. Waiting for a star to fall, And carry you heart into my arms, That's where you belong, in my arms baby...yeah.
