Health Minister Mary Harney today announced the launch of a
new exercise programme aimed at primary schools throughout
the country. The scheme aims to tackle the ever growing
problem of obesity in Irish children. Health officials welcomed
the scheme saying "We feel encouraged that the Minister is
taking serious steps to take on this expanding problem."
The scheme will start on a trial basis in selected schools in
January and both the Minister and leading Health officials are
quietly optimistic that it will be successful and lead to a
notable difference in the children of Ireland.
Entitled "Let's Laugh at Fatty" the scheme will encourage
laughing, pointing and running along with other healthy
physical activities such as tripping, punching and rolling the
little tubby bastards in the mud.
