Gardai have been reporting a high incidence of attacks on people
who have no TV licence it was revealed to The Naked Galwegian
yesterday. Superintendant Willie Longfellow stated "there's been a
lot of harassment going on lately, these people are revealed to have
no TV licence and suddenly they're targeted".
When asked specifically what kind of harassment Superintendant
Longfellow replied "well it's varying from lighter stuff like being
spat at on the street to more serious stuff like stones being thrown
through windows. We've even had a few burning crosses".
Elaborating on what sort of people are involved in these attacks,
Superintendent Longfellow said "Well it would be mainly people
from the elderly community in the area, we've seen Neighbourhood
Watch take on a very Charles Bronson outlook in recent times and I
don't think these ads on the telly are helping any. It's just not fair. I
mean we have students trapped in their houses, afraid to go to the
pub and get wasted for fear of being pelted with human faeces".
The Superintendent also revealed that this hate group has widened its remit now to people who 'share'
music. "It is not clear at this time whether this group has been hired by any vested interest or whether
this is just another bone of contention with them. But it is a worrying development."
When asked how the Gardai are tackling this escalating problem the Superintendent replied, "Well we're
really hoping it'll just go away, and we're all making sure we get our TV licences sorted ASAP."
