Why Join NAMI Western Tidewater?

It is not necessary to join NAMI to attend our meetings; everyone is welcome.

• Automatic membership in NAMI Virginia, and NAMI (national)
• Subscription to NAMI's magazine, the Advocate, which features cutting-edge articles about the latest research, treatments, and services for mental illnesses; the status of major policy and legislation at the federal, state, and local levels; and provocative ediorials and columns.
• Availability of books, brochures, and fact sheets with the most accurate and current information about mental illnesses, medications and other treatments, and related issues. NAMI members receive a 10-percent discount on all NAMI publications.
• Support of other family members who have "been there".
• Increased confidence in coping skills.
• Scholarships to annual conventions.
• Opportunities to advocate for legislation, research, and better services for yourself or your loved one.

Affiliate members are consumers(patients) and their families and friends. Affiliate members belong to all three levels of the organization (local affiliate, state organization, and national) and are eligible to vote in NAMI elections. Join NAMI at the local-affiliate level if you wish to particapate in local and state activities. Joining at the local level automatically makes you a NAMI member at all three levels.

National Associate members are others who share NAMI's mission of empowering and uniting everyone affected by serious mental illness to improve their lives and advocate for better treatments and services. NAMI National Associate members belong to NAMI only at the national level.
