When I found out that I would be getting "meet 'n greet" passes to see the Dixie Chicks at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC, I just about passed out! I had heard that they put on one heckofa show and I couldn't wait to see them in concert for the first time and meet them also. It almost didn't happen though, because we couldn't find the place (I'm not too good with directions, o.k.!) Anyway, my sister, my best friend, and I finally found Fort Jackson after driving aimlessly around downtown Columbia for about an hour and a half.

Once we got there and got our tickets, we had to wait for about 20 minutes with all the other lucky people who were about to meet the Chicks. When it was finally time to meet them, we were ushered to the back where there were lots of people and buses and military folks (it was outside at a military base). The first thing I saw when I got back there though, was the Chicks' tour bus! I recognized it because of the "Ain't Skeered" sticker that's on the bus window, which they show on the "Wide Open Spaces" video. Well, after waiting about 10 minutes for them, they finally came out of the bus...and I just went into another world! I had to give my sister the camera because I couldn't hold it still! Emily came out first, then Martie, followed by Natalie. They sat down at a table and began to sign autographs. We were about 8th in line, so I still had a few minutes to decided what I was going to say to them.

Well, I was next and I couldn't believe that I was about 4 feet away from the DIXIE CHICKS!! I stepped up to get my paper signed and all I could say was "HI". Emily said "Hey" and signed my paper. I told them that I had a website for them and that I was a HUGE fan. Natalie talked to me about the site and then I asked if I could get my picture with them. So I walked behind them to get the picture and Martie turned all the way around and talked to me! She thanked me for doing the website and said it was because of fans like me that save them for having to spend money on a website. (I think that's what she said...I told you, I was off in another world!) Then some lady took our pic and we had to go out front and find our seats for the concert.

The Chicks and (l to r) Me, my sis Ansley, and my best bud Jodi

The concert was outside, so me and my buds made our way through the crowd of people and ended up standing in the front row. It seemed like we waited forever for the Chicks to come out, but to the crowd's pleasure, they finally did! As soon as we saw a Chick, the crowd just went nuts!! It was a high energy show and the crowd was definetly involved. Natalie is an awesome live singer who gets the crowd pumped up by headbanging around the stage (and telling bad jokes..hehe)! When they sang "You Were Mine", which Emily said would probably be the next single, Natalie totally blew me away! She's so awesome. I knew that Martie could play the fiddle, but I didn't realize just how amazing she is! That gal can play! And Emily tore up that banjo! She's incredible! They had they crowd on it's feet, screaming and yelling the entire time! No one wanted them to leave; there were chants of "DIXIE CHICKS" after they had left the stage, hoping that they would do an encore. But they didn't, so we made our way back to the parking lot to head back home after an amazing night! I thought NOTHING would top this, but boy, was I wrong! That next weekend I had backstage passes and tickets to see them again. Click Here to read about it...
