Phase
3 - Functional vs. ornamental
We're
discussing scenarios of use, user types. There are so many...
Grandma,
in the park | "Do
you want to hear my grandson playing violin?" | Grandpa,
at home | remembering
the things he has to do using his sound beads | Sentimental
fool | carrying
around the voice of his beloved | Mom
and Dad | having
a collection of their kids' sound moments | Teen-age
girl | getting
a present.... each of her friends recorded a bead | Sound
enthusiast | carrying
her beads, collecting sounds, recording and re-recording |
We
keep hitting on the same point: is this a functional object? We reach a decision:
no. To have sound in your jewelry makes sense only if it is about emotional
content. Grandpa and the sound enthusiast are out. We decide to think about
it as a gift. Someone makes and gives this to you. Like giving the gift of
jewelry. But with added meaning.
