I found this Friendship Sloop in Burlington Harbor on Lake Champlain in Vermont. The boat does duty as a site seeing boat. Though the hull of this boat is fiberglass, all of the rigging appears to be true to the old Maine workboats that this boat was modeled after.

These boats were originally used to transport fish along the Maine coast. Their small size made them popular as pleasure craft in later years. The captain allowed me to take a few pictures of the rigging which I thought was interesting since most of the rigging seemed to be handmade rather than the stuff most sailors are used to now-a-days.
Under working sails, Friendship heads into Burlington harbor. The gaff rig on this old working type boat is a rarity on Lake Champlain.
Ash steam bent hoops hold the sail to the mast which is a locally cut spruce tree. Anyone thinking that a mast has to be perfect should notice the small knots and checks on this one. I think this mast was about 8 inches diameter at the base.
Galvanized wire, served and parceled with leather with dacron lines running through wooden blocks make up the mast head rigging. I was amazed at how little hardware there was here.
No expensive stainless steel turnbuckles here. This boat uses lignum vitae deadeyes to tension the shrouds.
The end of the bowsprit shows a combination of metals being used. The headstay ends appear to be galvanized with stainless clevis attached to custom cast bronze. This boat sees only freshwater so the above deck hardware sees no damage from salt.
